My 9 year old daughter has been seeing a therapist for a year but has gotten much worse. She doesn't want to bathe or take care of herself and has panic attacks especially in the morning or in the middle of the night. Does anyone have a similar experience? What do you do to help your child?

Anxious Child
Allow your child to accept the panic attacks. Continue to seek treatment and look at some medication to help with the symptoms. Unfortunately, these may not go away, but with the proper guidance and understanding your daughter will learn to accept these symptoms and manage them.
So is someone doing something to her? Have you investigated that? When did it start? Who has access to her? Sometimes they tell kids you're parents will hate you if they find out or that they'll kill there parents. I don't want to freak you out but sometimes its people you trust and would never suspect. I would take her to a therapist that specializes in children. I don't want to upset you but bad people look like everyone else.
I too have a child that is 9 who suffers from panic and anxiety. He has been in therapy for a year and recently his panic has gotten to epic levels. He lays on the floor screaming and crying and hyperventilating when it is time to go to school. I finally had to take him back to the psychiatrist and started Zoloft. He has been on it for 6 days now and today had 2 panic attacks at school. I know it takes time but I just want him to be a happy kid without all of this anxiety and panic. I have already asked and been through the wringer about anyone at school bothering him. He denies any of that and says he does not know why he is so scared. Does anyone out there have a young child on any antidepressants for their anxiety or panic? Have you thought about meds for your daughter?
