Hi, I have been struggling with my (GAD) for a very long time. I also have social anxiety and depression as well. I’m really trying to get better and learn how to cope.

I am also trying my best to get better. I’m currently in the process of starting treatment with meds and then when I get insurance I want to start therapy.

I’m in the process of starting therapy too. But it’s hard for me to open up. So I don’t know how well that’s going to go either. Gives me so much anxiety.

They suggested I start meds first to relieve some anxiety so it will be easier for me to start therapy if the drugs don’t improve my anxiety. My NP was amazing, if you can’t afford a psychiatrist then at least continue to be in touch with your GP or NP, they usually know about mental health.

I know your pain I have my good days and my bad days a lot of my anxiety attacks I thought were heart attacks in the beginning because of the physical symptoms I was always having (heart pounding, dizzy, impending doom feeling, breathing difficulty) but after years of having them and talking to doctors and therapists I realize now when I have them they are just anxiety attacks but they can be very scary for sure if you don't know what it is in the beginning. I hate taking RX meds too so it's a double edge sword, I feel like I trade one problem for another when I take the pills the doctors give me and all the side effects that come with them. To be honest I have been using medical marijuana for the last few years and I feel it really helps me and doesn't have near as many bad side effects. I know it might sound crazy but look into it and try a sativa strain it really helps with mood, anxiety and depression. But use a low does if you never tried it before

Sativa is too expensive for me to afford, one fill up of the vape pen is $40. :-( so for now I’m gonna try the meds and eventually I’m hoping to get off meds and try sativa instead when I can afford it. A guy at a supplement store suggested cbd oil and it’s legal in the USA but it’s also expensive for a good quality oil. I heard Xanax or Zoloft are what works best for anxiety.

I have been prescribed xanax for the last 10 years it works great but it's super addictive and makes you become super dependent on them they have also been linked to causing Alzheimer's so it's a toss up. I used Zoloft for a while too and had issues with libido which is a common side effect of that medication as well. I always feel like I'm trading one problem for another when it comes to RX drugs. I personally prefer natural medicine I live in a state that supports medical marijuana and find it very beneficial in low doses. Sativa oil is about the same here in price $40 for 250mg but it's a concentrate at 50% or THC so one 3sec draw is all you need.

Is sativa oil better than Xanax?

I'm not saying sativa oil is better but it works very well for me with very few negative side effects and other people I have talked too who use it agree. Xanax is very effective when it comes to anxiety but it's also very addictive and will make you have some bad withdraw side effects from using the medication. I have seen many people get prescribed xanax and get hooked and then when the doc takes them off of it there looking to buy it off the street. Not saying everyone gets hooked on it but it does have risks

I have been taking Klonopin for my anxiety and panic attacks.

Been taking it for years and, for me, it works great and it doesn't make you feel drugged like Xanax and Valium did. I took those at different times a long time ago.

I also take Zoloft for depression and it has helped best for me. Sometimes, it DOES "poop out", but when it does and I can't handle the depression, my Dr has added Wellbutrin which gives Zoloft a "kick start" and it works!

Over the years, I have gone off Zoloft and tried other anti-depressants, but they either had bad side effects or just didn't work for me. That is why I have gone back to Zoloft.

Everyone is different though, so it's important to explore what works for each of us.
