Just curious to know if any other people on here sort of cling to their anxiety or depression? Like they don't know who they are or what to do without it? Or use it as an excuse to get out if things u don't feel lik doing?

Hi Rachms11,

This is a very interesting question since there are all kinds of personalities which can affect how an individual would see their condition.

Personally, I was glad to the have the diagnosis of a major depressive disorder because it helped me get the therapy and treatment I required. While I have not been able to get rid of the depression 100%, I prefer not to let the diagnostic label define who I am and what I can do in the present moment.

Excuses for not doing anything can be made up by anyone, depressed or not.

Falling back on the depression for an excuse is sometimes too easy but also necessary when you are not in a good head space. You can see the statement as your psychological safety net. The problem comes when the excuse happens so often that you are missing out on events, going places, relationships, school and employment.
