Alternating doses of medications

Has anyone else wanted to decrease their dosage of medication and been told to alternate different dosages ? For example taking 50mg one day then 25mg the next day until you feel comfortable taking the 25mg only then just stick with that? I'm thinking it's a little too much change for my brain to handle especially being on a drug like Pristiq which has a short half life so I'm thinking of just cutting the pills down myself even though it says you can't cut them 😜
