That must be horrible
that is a really common anxiety response, to feel fear at night. the logical answer I think is... that we are less in control of any situation at night. during the day, we can chat or txt or whatever to friends or family or even work colleagues. we can call a pharmacist or a GP or ask someone to pop round. we have other distractions during the day. when night falls things change and fear begins. I have experienced extreme fear too at night and I have tried to put things in place to cope better. one of them is the Headway forum, day or night someone will respond. my fear was that in the event of something happening, I couldn't get anyone. I'm still here. lol. someone very sensible once said to me that fighting sleep or not getting enough sleep really plays havoc with both mental and physical well-being and that well-being isn't simply the absence of disease. so, well-being is what we should concentrate on even if we think we are ok. well-being is more about maintenance of ourselves. getting washed, eating good fresh food, going for a walk, laughter, sometimes just being silly, and yes- getting rest. if the fear starts at night, get on the forum. say exactly that, that you feel afraid. try to say why you are afraid, what you are afraid of etc... rest is good, even if you resist sleep your body will give in to it eventually. but to feel well the next day requires periods of resting, even ten or fifteen minutes of making yourself be still. I hope you keep in touch. x
