I am having a really rough day. I'm not on any meds even tho my psychiatrist pescribed them I refuse to take them due to my concerns of medication. I just so desperately want to feel like the old me. I've never went through this, it feels like there is no hope for me. I feel so discouraged and tired. Ive been going through this for over a month. I feel like no one understands. I feel helpless.

With all due respect, I would take your medications. I'm having a bad day and I'm on medications. Hang on; you're not alone!

What kind of medication do you take?

I was on Klonopin, but the doctor changed my medication to Gabapentin. It's not working and I have severe anxiety. I also take 3 other medications.

I have had crippling anxiety for the last five days. I will be calling the doctor tomorrow since I can't sleep. The three other medications are duloxetine, memantine, & donepezil. Duloxetine supposedly helps anxiety but I haven't noticed a difference. The last two medications are related to Alzheimer's.

Hi what concerns do you have about meds? They wouldn't be prescribed for you unless they were safe to take. If it is the side effects you are worried about then every drug has them even aspirin and paracetomol - do you refuse to take those too?

If you get any side effects then they are very likely to be only the minor common ones. If you are unlucky enough to get any worse ones then you just change and try another.

You will not be on them for life and very few are addictive as they were in the old days. When it is time to come off them do it under a doctors advice and you should be ok.

Meds aren't for everyone but they do help you feel better in the short term and more able to tackle your issues. Of course you want the old you back - we all do, but you are refusing something which can help you with that.

You could always try the self help route ie mindfullness, meditation, yoga etc.

I wish you well.

It's anxiety meds which I heard are very addictive and that concerns me. Also, anti depressants. I want to do better I've been home for over a month with therapy. Both strongly suggest I take the medicine. So I'm going to give it another try .

I agree with lilaclil, at least give the meds a try. You don't have to be on them forever, but meds are tools that can help us get to a point where we are able to develop other coping skills. Some people (like me) do have to be on them long term, but it sure beats the alternative of not being able to get out of bed or function in the world.

Good luck!
