Hey I'm new

I recently found out about this site . I've had depression and anxiety since I can remember. I just want someone to talk to . I don't really have friends at school or outside of school . I'm 17 . Hopefully I will make friends with similar stories.

Hi Islms,

I'm quite a bit older than you, but I have suffered from social anxiety since kindergarten, and never had many friends throughout school. I probably only had one or two friends tops, at a time.

I didn't date until after I started therapy in my mid twenties.

I never thought I also had depression until my therapist suggested that I did and sent me to a Psychiatrist for medicine.

To try to make a very long story short, with the help of therapy, anti-anxiety and anti-depressant meds plus support groups, I am doing MUCH better.

I would suggest you talk with your Dr how you're feeling and find out what he/she thinks.

Are your parents aware of how you feel? Can you talk with them? Do you think they would be ok with therapy?

The thing that REALLY helped me with my social anxiety was going to Self-Help groups, but it took years for me to be comfortable with that.

If you can't tell with your parents or your Dr, is there anyone you might feel comfortable confiding in, maybe a favorite teacher or guidance counselor?
