I've been dealing with anxiety and depression ever since I was a little kid (almost 20 now). I've never been prescribed medication for it because I didn't want to become dependent on pills. However, I've recently started the process of trying to get medication because my anxiety and depression has slowly been taking over my life. I've tried a lot of natural and holistic therapies and the majority of them have helped to manage and keep it from overtaking my life. This is what I've tried:
Meditation
Yoga
Exercise in general
Diet changes (limit fried foods, alcohol, dairy products, coffee, refined sugar, and acid forming foods)
Aromatherapy (I like using lavender essential oil)
Natural supplements (L-theanine, valerian root, St. John's Wort (can't take with birth control))
CBD oil (doesn't make you high because there is no THC)
One thing that I haven't done is therapy. My doctor has been trying to push therapy on me for the past couple of years, but I really don't want to do therapy. I'm the type of person who bottles up my feelings and doesn't want to talk about them until I have a break down. If I can barely talk about my feelings with my family and friends, I definitely won't be able to talk about my feelings with a complete stranger.
