I used to carry a large water bottle with me and drink it when I was hyperventilating. I found it forced me to take a deep breath and broke up the cycle.

I was suggested to get rid of my Apple Watch. Do you have one? Letā€™s do it together! I would give it up otherwise I constantly monitor my heartbeat

I find myself checking my watch way too much!! I get scared when itā€™s high and scared when itā€™s low!

I chose a poem to memorize (The Raven by EA POE as a matter of fact). I would repeat it until I could maybe watch some mindless TV, which also helped. Reading was out of the question but the recital of the stanzas helped.

ā€œOnce upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary...ā€

Nice one! Iā€™ll try it! What kind of tv show would you watch?

My favorite show is NCIS so Iā€™ll start with season 1 Episode 1 on Netflix and binge watch. I laugh at the Bachelor/Bachelorette. And enjoy the psychological aspects, and personality issues on Survivor. Project Runway works for me too But I need to be aware of my mood and not watch things that trigger me. For instance I love mystery and medical shows but for someone who is effected by fear of health problems Greys Anatomy might not work for him or her.

Lol yes! Thatā€™s true as we start to think and worry. I also tend to watch only comedies

See. Thatā€™s my point. Comedies annoy me. Canā€™t bear laugh tracks and my sense of humor is dry, cynical and dark. I do, however, laugh out loud at Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Oh I see. Yeah itā€™s completely different for me. I canā€™t watch anything else. For like 4 month straight when I broke up with my ex bf watching friends helped me a lot. I used to not being able to fall asleep if I wonā€™t watch them. Also, it helped me to fell asleep while I played it

I tell myself *just because I think it - does not make it true. ( I learned to self sooth and if that does not work I have emergency Ativan that works in 10 minutes. I always carry them in pocket.) This is especially important to me as I suffer from Afib, a heart rhythm problem brought on by stress.

Very sorry to hear that! Have you developed an addiction to the subscription drugs? Iā€™m afraid to take it as itā€™s highly addictive

I also use the same breathing method, it's my go to. I also will distract myself by watching dull YouTube videos or tv. I constantly talk to myself too...i say "no, you're okay" " just breathe" "good days and bad." That sort of stuff.

That's what I'm talking about. Pam

Not having panic attacks anymore but if you feel a big one coming on jump in the shower cold water only or filll the sink up with ice water and dunk your head in a few times then do some breathing exercises after works every time.

I talk. I'll talk to the tv, the cat, the furniture. Anything. I think its like counting out loud when you exercise. It gets you to regulate your breathing.
