Hi Friends some ofbyou know me wellMy Husband has had Cancer for 12 years with all initial treatments of Radiation to the Prostate Bed and Zoladex 3 monthly injections which brought his psa down from 64 to nadir,
Zoladex was stopped and it was a wait and watch, we had six years where the psa was trending upwards very slowly.
He went back onto Adt due to 2 small pelvic lymph nodes where the psa dropped a little but that stopped working and he became Castrate Resistant. Next terapy was Enzalutimide which did work for about 5 months but then that failed failed.
Doxcetazal was started he did 3 infusions and then his psa shot up to 911, it to failed.
He came into the ER two weeks ago with excruciating back pain, and his solitary kidney was failing, the hospital got that back in the normal range then ran tests, bone scan & ct scan. Yesterday we were informed by his Oncologist that the diagnosis is Hypercalcemia, the high levels of Calcium from the cancer attacking his bones is causing the calcium to enter the bloodstream. Spinal mets and vetrebrae fractures have been found and the hospital have given him an infusion of Zoledronic Acid to try to bring the calcium levels down and reduce the pain also given high doses of Hydromorphone. He has Chemo Refractory Disease and no Clinical Trials will benefit him. He will receive radiation to the Spinal mets on Tuesday to also reduce the pain, hopefully we can get him a little mobile.
The outcome we have been told is not looking promising there is no timeframe given it's basically trying to keep the pain under control He is quite unwell and sleeping lots.
We are bringing him home after his radiaton from the Hospital on Tuesday where we have a guest room set up as a Palliative Care Space, Nurses will be attending everyday.
Has anyone here been given this diagnosis, is there anything else we can do, try......./
l am so very sad, This happened so quickly that it's overwhelming., he had no bone metasteses on his last bone scan in Nov 24 at all, just a couple of small belly lymph node invasion.
Any help of advice would be greatly appreciated.
