My 9yr is on Concerta for is ADHD which works for everything! The down fall is the lost of appetite when on it, causing us to use cyproheptadine which doesn’t seem to help, does anybody know of a medication, stimulates or non-stimulants where the side effects aren’t lose of appetite? Any suggestions would be appreciated…anybody using Kapvay? Thoughts about it with appetite?

Our pediatrician's advice was to serve a hearty breakfast first thing, and then give the concerta. Lunch can be hit or miss. Left on his own, he will forget to eat. If there is a formal mealtime, he will eat. In the evening when the concerta is wearing off, we have dinner together.
My 8 yr old son started Azstarys over the summer and it’s helped his appetite very much. He was on Adderall XR before and it was a mission to get him to eat. It was explained to me that Azstarys releases medication in small amounts throughout the day, rather than a big release after the first 30 min and then again about 4hrs later. It’s in the methylphenidate family like Concerta, which is meant to be a little milder on kids than the one Adderall is in. He eats his lunch at school now and is happy to have a good snack when he comes home and doesn’t complain about dinner anymore.
you may want to have him take a gene sight test. It will determine what medications will have adverse side effects for him, though it doesn’t say which side effect he may have.
is his weight an actual issue? My son is 9, tall and very lean. He took concerta and lost his appetite as well but he made up for it in the evening when it wore off. So dense breakfast, and dense dinner. I usually just packed different snacks for lunch so he could graze and eat SOMETHING but he hardly ever ate any of it. I got worried about it too and his pediatrician reminded me he hasn’t lost any weight and said to try pediasure or monkey milk daily with breakfast to add in extra protein. I would stay away from additional meds unless he’s really losing weight.
