Well! The weather looked wet and windy this morning, and although I was tempted by the potential bragging rights that a windy walk or run would give me, I decided to rather indoor row this morning (no external moisture involved 😅) and then walk this afternoon as the weather prognosis looked ok.
And that was great!
I got out, held up for another few minutes by chatting to a neighbour also out for a walk (“great walking minds think alike”) and then walked 12 minutes whilst leaves where flickering in the wind.
12 minutes out one way, I thought I’d put on the 6minute super-short run of my weird and wonderful 4-week NRC fun running plan, which would get me back home, but it felt all weird somehow. Not bad, but weird.
I think how my mind works is, if I say I go for a walk… a walk it is!
And if I set out for a run, nothing else will give me the feeling of completion. And certain habits belong to one and not to the other, e.g. for my runs I always wear my parcrun band with emergency phone numbers and allergies. But I never wear these for walks. (Not sure why)
But it makes me feel unprepared when I suddenly decide to run on my walk!
Isn’t the mind weird and wonderful?

I spent the day visiting with a friend yesterday which involved a three hour drive one way and a two hour one back due to multiple diversions with a lot of sitting around and mulling over the way of the world in the meantime so I didn't walk very much at all.
However, like you, I had a wild and windy walk this afternoon with Monroe and managed 2.25 miles, one mile of which was a steady uphill walk to the forestry viewpoint so I have made up for it.
It seems to be the theme with me that I may have a few days where I don't get very many steps in followed by two or three where I get lots of steps in, so I need to look at the overall picture rather than picking out a single days!
Oh good that you made it back safely! Train lines have been down in various parts of the country so it’s good you’re back! I bet Monroe liked this kind of weather (it’s your dog, right?)
Yes, Monroe is one my Bordeauxs. Larry is the other one, but he is Al's walking partner more than mine as he's steadier and more of a plodder than Roe, who's more energetic 😊 She loves windy weather as much as me and tries to catch the gusts in her mouth - it's very comical to watch and she's a great "therapy dog" 😅
She also loves wild seas like me too, whereas Larry on his first visit to the seaside in Cornwall was scared of gentle waves and even seaweed - he's a rum 'un as they say up North 😂😂😂😂
I agree the mind is wonderful, amazing but sometimes we do make interesting connections 😊 On the radio the other day they were talking about ‘coincidences’ and how we notice these. They were saying how the human mind is always seeking patterns and connections between things. I do think that humans have evolved and survive by having routines, so we don’t have to constantly make decisions - not overloading the brain and allowing us to be more creative perhaps 🤔 We also went out this afternoon when the sun came out 👍 ☀️
You are so absolutely right. But also so very different. With my patterns of thinking I almost never forget anything when I go out (unless I do something spontaneous like this time), but hubby only has to remember 3 things (wallet, keys, phone) and I cannot tell you how many times he’s forgotten one of them. His mind is a mystery to me! 🤣🤣 But then he remembers in detail a story I told him 10 years ago! I often tell him the contents of a book so that at least one of us remembers! 🤣🤣
Yes the mind is weird, if I'm.walking I'm.wearing jeans, if I'm running then shorts or leggings, I have been known to change my mind and run in jeans though
Beautiful photo and i can see the wierd part, I have to have certain trainers as they have a bounce in them so my feet are comfortable. I also have to have music so my wierd is if I don't. I have to change what I have on my mp3 player as it's getting boring.
LOL I couldn’t even imagine going without music. And music made me fall in love with going out there alone when running and walking. And I love the meditative nature of it: me, my music, nature and the natural elements of sun, wind and rain.
Obviously I love social walks as well, but I do now so immensely enjoy walking on my own and I hadn’t before 6 years ago or so, where I associated walks only with having company.
Just in case you need some themed Spotify lists (I had done for sunny weather, cold weather, etc), here’s a post I wrote about it with links to all my themed song lists. Just in case you need some fresh music for walking 😃😄:
