A very quick lunchtime walk today, as I had done a 21 min Rope Flow practice (our S&F forum challenge) outside in our courtyard just before I headed out for a walk. So I was properly warmed up even before taking the first step out of our gate!
But I was contemplating on my walk on how good walking feels at the moment. It’s not always been that case, and the fact that I set myself a rather humble challenge of at least 10min daily lunchtime walks makes it achievable for me. Little steps, I say.
And I also contemplated on my upward journey, fitness wise.
Hubby and I recently discussed this, as he feels he is just going downhill as he ages, having been super fit to begin with. I’m sure that’s not quite right, as he recently has started running again, and his walking reached awesome mileages of 7-10km per day. Distances I can only dream of. But his experience of his fitness is sadly one of reduction.
Whereas I was so poorly ca 6-7 years ago (after 15 years of an undiagnosed and unmedicated condition). I really had given up, barely remembering my quite active lifestyle as a young adult.
And then ca 4-5 years ago, finally getting the medication right, and starting C25k, then S&F, my experience has just been one of improving year on year and feeling increasingly better, less pain, more strengths and enjoying my body and its movements again.
And walking is my latest improvement experience.
I’m still far from being at a “normal” or “average” fitness. I run super slow, I row a bit faster but still in the bottom third of averages of my age. And walking can still result in backaches.
But boy do I love being active now, and that is just such a gift.
May you all enjoy your next walks as much as I do!
Happy walking, everyone.
