Back in the pool

I haven't been swimming for a very long time, but decided to give it a go this morning especially as it's free for 60+ members twice a week.

Well I'm glad I listened to my inner guidance. I really enjoyed it and did better than I thought I would, despite having to rest a few times to get my breath back! 22 laps with some pit stops might not be much for some, but it's a great start for me.

I'm going to make it a regular outing and just pray it doesn't ruin my locs too much! I'm off to search for chloride neutralising shampoo now 😁🧴🫧

I've plastered them in coconut oil, so fingers crossed 🀞 🀞 🀞 🀞

In Ireland, we have to wear hats in pools and it really does help protect the hair- I even wear mine when I'm home and don't have to now- much more flexible than the rubber ones in the 60s and 70s for school swimming lessons, but no more flattering I'm afraid🀣 well done on the swim- that's a good distance after a break.

My hair reaches my knees (I haven't cut my hair for nearly 40 years) and I'm pretty sure they don't make a swimming cap big enough to accommodate that sort of length. Great suggestion though, for which I thank you πŸ€—

Thank you also for the encouragement for my swimming 🏊 I must admit I found it a bit daunting, as I have problems with my breathing associated with long covid, but was actually amazed at how controlled I could make my breathing in the pool and now regret not having a go at it sooner. Still, I'm on it now, and really really delighted to be back doing my impersonation of a not terribly adept πŸ§œβ€β™€οΈ

There is a long hair version of hats available now, might be big enough- a friend offered me one to try and my hair didn't fill it (getting thinner nowadays), so it was flapping about and not for me. Might be worth looking though. Or plenty of coconut oil 🀣

Coconut oil it is. My hair is in dreadlocks, so not only very long but also very thick!

This is my crowning glory up in a bun where it spends most of it's time now - I must have incredibly strong neck muscles, even though the rest of my body is feeble πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

I have found Ultra Swim, but it's not cheap at around Β£13 a bottle and I use about a third of a bottle per wash!
