How is everyone on the #Walk1000Miles doing ? Are you managing to hit your target miles? And more importantly, are you enjoying your walks in hot or wet or cool summers?
As many of you know, I started off this challenge by committing to putting all my mileage-based activities into this challenge. I knew my walking mileage alone would set me up to failure. All my yearly averages of mileages (rowing, running and walking) still indicated I’m 25% lower than what it would have needed to be.
So I set up my challenge in such a way to row, run and walk more. For me, it’s not #Walk1000Miles, but #Walk-Run-Row1000Miles. And that’s what a challenge is for, to give you a challenging but realistic fitness target, right?
And I’m doing ok, I’m ahead in mileage and a few weeks ago received my 750mile notification!
And more positively, my walking mileage has increased (also by jeffing more), my back ache (which I usually get when walking) has disappeared and I’m still inspired to continually get out there!
And I’m also constantly immensely inspired and in awe of many of our walkers who are reaching their targets by walking daily! AWESOME!!!’
So how is everyone else on this challenge doing with their #Walk1000Miles? Are you managing to hit your target miles? Have you adapted the challenge to your needs? Are you reaping the benefits? And more importantly, are you enjoying your walks and activities?

Well done . You’re on target . I do t know how you do all the different exercises. My back is killing me just now with the tightening across the back and the intercostal muscles right round your rib cage but soldering on., and determined to finish after gone this far. I am at 805 miles on my walks. At 750 miles I walked the length of the Alps. So onwards and upwards were nearly there✋.
I know it is so painful, but whenever I see intercostal, I think of one of my favourite films: Bringing Up Baby, with the discussion of the Intercostal Clavicle!
Well, I row much more than I run. And run much more than I walk. And at the beginning I also converted all S&F exercises to equivalent mileage, but I don’t do that anymore.
I’m just in awe of anyone who manages that by just walking!
Awesome on your progress toward your challenge and thanks for keeping us accountable, CBDB !
I am 68% toward my goal of 4000km of running & walking this year (with about 64% of the days done...). Most of that is walking as I use my feet to commute to work and the Pilates studio. Plus, I injured my knee during a fall, so ended up not running as much in June and July as I had thought.
Biking is another story! I used swapfiets the last couple of years but somehow didn't feel like getting one this year (I returned the bike in fall to save money as I hardly biked during the prior winters...). So, zero km biking 🤣 Maybe in 2024, I'll pick that up again... Or I'll get an indoor bike... (Yes, I am scared to ride in the city... and it's objectively not very safe either, as reporting on bike safety has shown...)
Thank you, everybody! Though in 2023, I logged 3,890 km, so this isn't that big of a jump for me... It's a challenge - and a realistic fitness target 😉
It's a long story.... I saw the challenge thank you CBDB and then went straight to the website not reading small print and bought the medal... Thought for 2023 but was completer 2022.... Well that was it I said can't lie so had to do 254 miles to keep me honest for 2022... And now working to get 2000 miles medal.... I am unemployed so have a lot of time on my hands so instead of sitting down to have coffee I walk until I get to 10k steps.... I can do this quite comfortably now and started because my app had walk 10k steps for 100 days consecutively... I haven't worked out if I can hit 3000 by December but I am going to try... 😁
Aiming for total of 3000 miles over 2 years.... I am at 2479 mile so another 500 miles
