Walking, Running, And a LOT of determination

Instructor57 profile image

Prior to my heart attack (27th Feb 2023) my weight had slowly crept up to 13 and a half stone , and I was probably in denial.

In reality this was way over weight for my height!

The heart attack was a wake up call .

I have since worked hard to rebuild my fitness with help and advice from cardiac rehab teams at both Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton and my GP and a local sports physiotherapist!

I have been doing A LOT of walking , some of which have been posted here .

I am also now closing in on completing Couch to 5k for a 2nd time (Due to start week 8) and have managed to reduce my weight by almost 2 stone !

I am now (as the diagrams show) just back in to the heathy range!

I intend to take it a little further in just to give me a bit of breathing space .

The walking and running will continue as will my eating regime of low carbs low sugar πŸ™‚

And thank you to everyone who has messaged me asking how I'm doing !

I appreciate it πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

Thanks Jools2020 , it's been an interesting ride and still a little way to go but the destination is now in easy reach .I have also managed to bring several blood tests back within the normal range so it's nice to see the results of the hard work πŸ™‚

That's wonderful news Ian, well done on almost completing C25K again and getting your weight and BMI, body mass index down, I am sure you are taking all your walks and running at a steady pace and benifitting from that 2 stone loss in weight. onwards and upwards πŸƒπŸΎ πŸ‘

Thanks Alan, I appreciate your comments! However, my walks are at a relatively HARD pace of 13-14 on the Borg scale of perceived effort, as recommended by my Cardiologist and rehab team πŸ™‚

I would post a picture but the system will not let me reply to you with a picture!

Good to hear you’re getting on so well - well done on your weight loss and week 8 of the ct5k πŸ‘πŸ».

I went for a health check yesterday and was quite shocked that my bmi put me in the overweight category. I am quite a small build and would never have thought I was overweight but it’s making me think that I should cut back on snacks - I don’t smoke or drink so just crisps and sugary snacks to reign in. My cholesterol is down from last time to a decent level so that’s one good thing πŸ‘πŸ»

It's so easy for it to creep up on you !I used to bake a lot and living on my own that was , well, almost fatal!

I used to snack in the evening out of boredom.

I got into a bad habit of buying ready made sandwiches and a packet of crisps for my lunch and no doubt I ate way too much carbs and sugar .

That has now absolutely totally changed

I do not snack at all,

I only have water between meals.

I don't eat anything with added sugar and I'm on very low carb intake but I'm actually getting used to it and quite enjoying preparing clean meals for myself .

I have also been using intermittent fasting ( With medical approval I must add)

I can slacken the reigns slightly when I'm further into the normal range but I will not start adding sugar into my diet again .

And the intermittent fasting will remain as a tool I can and will use if I notice the weight creep up again .

Strangely enough my cholesterol was never high , however I needed to reduce my blood sugar and have actually now managed to set it off on a downward trend !

All these things have helped but again I stress they are all with professional medical approval .

I don't doubt you can probably get back into the healthy category with out too much problem!

Good luck πŸ™‚πŸ‘

I totally understand why you’ve cut everything bad out and I know I should take heed of an early warning and follow suit. It is a lifestyle change and takes time to get used to and as an actual crisp addict I’m going to find that snack a tough one to stop.

You’ve done so well and all the changes will no doubt help you’re future health πŸ˜‰

Thanks πŸ™‚πŸ‘There is still a posting issue.

And that is if you reply to someone's reply and try and add a picture it then just becomes a reply to the main thread.
