This Monday morning I went a 2 hours 4 miles walk, nothing to remarkable about the distance or time, but it was all up hill about 15 miles from where I live, the highest part just over 1000 feet, it was a bit cold at the top of the hill but there was a wonderful view almost to the sea 20 miles away.

1000 feet high walk
Oh wow that is a stunning view from up there! You're very lucky to live where you live, AlMorr 😁 and you definitely make the most of it 👏👏👏
It was a lovely view from the top of that hill Beatlesforever, in the distance you can see the sea near to the place where I ran my graduation run of C25K, the photo is of the estuary of the Fiirth of Clyde, in the distance is Greenock on the south side of the Clyde, on the north side, opposite Greenock, not in the photo is Helensburgh where I ran my graduation run almost 6 years ago.
Just glorious Al x
It was glorious Oldfloss, there was a part where the gradient was 17% which is very steep with a lot of stones on the path making it very tiring, just about 5 minutes later where it wasn't just as steep a runner passed me.
Oh gosh... you should have said.. "I ran this yesterday, decided to walk today"...🏃♀️🤣
No I wouldn't have said "I ran this yesterday" to that runner.
In January when it was icy I did walk up part of the route I walked on Monday, only halfway to about 500 ft, before the really steep and rough part starts, I was only wearing trainers unlike yesterday when I wore a pair of good walking boots.
🍏What a spectacular view! With all the effort of getting up there and back. Thanks for sharing AlMorr 🤩
Yes the view from that part is spectacular, the hill was quite steep but worth the effort for the lovely views at the top where I stopped and ate a few apple pies, a caramel shortcake and a drink of apple juice before walking back down the hill, it took 70 minutes from the train station to get to the top and 45 minutes including a short 60 seconds run to get back to the station where the train arrived in just two minutes, worth that short run getting to the station , if had missed the train I would have had to wait 30 minutes for the next train.
what a beautiful view. You could make that into a photo for your walls. Your legs will be tired tonight. We’ll done
Fabulous photo Al ! So pleased you enjoyed your walk😂
ohhh I know that view and miss it! We used to live in Dumbarton!
oh, and what an awesome walk!!!!
If you look carefully I think you can see Dumbarton Rock.
I couldn’t quite spot it but it all looked so familiar. Our house was close to the Clyde so we saw the hills on the other side.
Always loved coming down from Glasgow into Dumbarton, the scenery of the Clyde Delta is gorgeous!
I have a larger size photo version on my Smartphone, I didn't see Dumbarton Rock on the version I posted here but when I looked closely at the larger photo I could see Dumbarton Rock. I had binoculars with me, through them I could see almost as far as Dunoon, Kilcreggon and the Argyle hills.
So beautiful! Haven't walked anywhere remotely like that for many years! I remember visiting a friend who had an apartment in the New Town in Edinburgh and she took us out a good few miles away for a "wee wander" as she said, it wasn't "wee" but it was truly beautiful!
Amazing! And in some ways reminds me of parts of mid/West Wales where we live 🥰
What an achievement - it's an ambition of mine to [eventually] do steep walks like this again in the future. They used to be a regular thing, but I'm lucky to be able walk up gentle gradients nowadays 🙄but least I'm walking which is more than can be said for some in my position, so I am thankful nevertheless 🙏
That looks a stunning place for a walk
That view is so beautiful, Al! Worth the uphill walk in the right footwear! Sounds like hard work though, especially that 17% gradient.
That 17% gradient wasn't only steep, it was the worst part of the whole walk rutted with stones and small boulders, I was almost crawling but it was only for about 100 metres before becoming less steep and the path surface getting smoother, where I took the photo was at the last part of the steepest bit, it gave me a short 3 minute rest before continuing up to the top, still about a ten minute walk..
My goodness, I don’t think I would have made it! 🤨
Hi Jools2020, at no time I thought of not continuing even at the steepest part, before the steepest part a cyclist 🚴 riding a mountain bike passed me but I noticed he was walking at that steepest bit, not after I took that photo when I was on a less hilly part a RUNNER passed me, I am just wondering if that runner ran on that steepest part of the hill, with that terrible surface of stones a small boulders, who knows.
