An impromptu city walk

MissUnderstanding profile image

Today was a visit to the sales and I got in a bit of a childish grump. Busy. Nothing I wanted. Things I did want in the wrong size. Queues. Rain.

Before going home in a bad mood, I remembered that I had headphones in my bag so I thought I’d walk off my grump around the city with a podcast. It was a very good decision! I headed towards the harbourside, wandered up and down some steep steps with lovely Christmas lights, found a couple of lovely looking new cafes to try and cheered myself up no end. That was a full 5k of walking that wouldn’t have happened and I’m sure my husband was thankful that I didn’t go straight home in a mood!

I once walked an hour and a half straight away from home because I was so angry with an estate agent and had to ring my husband to come and pick me up when I calmed down! Walks have always been the best way for me to work out a grump.

Fabulous. I recently read an article (but cannot seem to find it anymore) about urban walking, and how discovering new little urban spaces or routes is proven to give you a real feel-good boost. It seems the act if discovery in places where you live or work or roam, all that creates a sense of settledness. 😊😊😊

You have just demonstrated that it does seem to work! Great post!

I’ve always enjoyed it. Random housing estates, financial districts, university campuses… love it! Financial districts in cities are a favourite because they’ve often got really good coffee shops! I love the countryside but it’s a great change to explore some built up areas too.

Definitely! I also do most of mg best thinking while doing something active-walking, running or swimming. It was great to have had enough time today to fit in such a good walk.

😃I do my best thinking when running, walking, swimming or knitting, I can't wait to get back out there,

I quite understand your grump MissU, I hate shopping! But what a great way to explore a new area and work it off as well!
