Hi need to be more active next year. Thought I would start doing this and then progress onto couch to 5k. Overweight, unfit, bad knees. But, I need to start somewhere.

Welcome to our forum, Vicky. You sound like many of us here - overweight, unfit and joints that just don't always co-operate! Having made the decision to change your lifestyle and joined this group, you are halfway there - well done! Everyone here will encourage and support you on your journey - from those of us who find it hard to walk to the end of the road to those who walk many miles. The recommended number of daily steps is 10 000 - that is the ultimate goal. I've been a member of the group for 7 months and have eventually reached 3 000 - but you need to aim for 10 000 at the pace that suits you! If you haven't exercised for a long time, maybe even 2 walks a day of 10 minutes each? Plan your walks - maybe try for 3 or 4 days a week to start. There's no quick fix (unfortunately - I wish there was!) But we will support and encourage you every step of the way - I look forward to your posts here as you achieve your goals. Good luck!

Hi not sure I can run but am aiming for 10000 steps plus two active tens a day - posh name for quick walking! My knees hurt so much but the painkillers upset my stomach so going to have to lose three stones. I’m 64 and tomorrow is my first day of retirement. Hopefully we can both achieve what we want. Be watching you with interest - you can definitely do it!!!
Today was the day, first 10 minute walk at a brisk pace. Feel great and the time flew by. Just need to do it again tomorrow!
