There are some very familiar faces here - it feels like home! I love walking, have always explored my surroundings on foot and a year before I started running I integrated more walking into my life (partly on doctor's orders). My doctor suggested going out for a 20 minute walk (over and above what I usually do) 3x a week. Which I dutifully did, getting up earlier to find the time. Fast forward 2 years and I still get up even earlier to either walk or run for 40 mins every working day morning. I have added a walk after work aswell, covering 3.5 km, walking to a train station further down the line. And on Fridays I walk all the way home (about 9 km) which is gorgeous in summer as I go through the Olympiapark in Munich. Even in winter it is a great way to leave work behind and head off into the weekend, although I avoid the park as it's dark. I hate it when I can't walk and it has helped me get fitter. This means I have no problem getting 10,000 steps a day, in fact I average over 11km a day.
And then, of course, long walks at the weekend. There are so many ways of getting active, but walking is one of the easiest and it is easy to integrate into our lives! I'm looking forward to all the ideas and posts on here!

Walking gives you the opportunity to get away from everything. You can head to places you haven't been to before and explore them on foot or you can go to a local park, walk it and you will always see something new. Its the best form of exercise in my opinion as its natural for your body to do it, its costs nothing either. You get to go outside in all seasons and see the changes in the landscapes, the only person to stop you is yourself.
It is nice to be amongst friends and to make new ones too!
I love the walking anytime and whilst being on the IC, it is the thing which has kept me sane...
Currently walking every day, even though I have started slowly running again. Averaging nine miles a day , half in the morning, half in the afternoon. Sometimes solo, or usually pushing a pram.. doing wonders for my tummy muscles!
I am looking forward to ideas and routes on here too
That's alot of mileage! You are truly an amazing lady😎 I've just started again after a lurgy (so much for bragging about not having a cold in ages!). And I was v. pleased to cover 5k non-stop yesterday. Want to do the same again tomorrow, but might settle for less. It's getting cold here again!
I think having the small one has encouraged me!!! She likes her pram!
I did manage a 1K walk, a 3K run and finished with 1K walk too yesterday! I am going to aim to build back up to 5K and have found the walking helps enormously! This Lurgy has a lot to answer for!
I walk everywhere, well almost 🙂 I walked and ran my little legs off yesdy 😊
Walk dog, walk dog, chase postman (me, not the dog), walk dog, walk into town and back, went running 🙂 Walking got me running. I have the dog again today so we'll be off out shortly 🙂
I have not driven anywhere in my new car yet which I have had for three weeks come Monday 😀 I can't bring myself just to take it out for the sake of it. I hate wasting petrol. Well, it's dear int it
I have not, done as much hiking this year. I used to,be,in a walking for health group but the organiser just quit and set up a new group locally, so,don't know what happened there 😞 So,it's mostly just me and the borrowed dog. I have him Sunday and Monday too while his owner goes off somewhere. I am away myself this weekend but am returning early to pick him up
I have told my old man that I intend to walk across a public park in Northampton to,go,to,the pub for our evening meal, and walk back. I just hope,it,s open and lit 😁
We haven't got a dog and I can't borrow one (yet). But like you I try to walk as much as I can. I feel I have to earn my trip to the pub! And I'm quite prepared to yomp back from town (about 10k) if I have the time. It's a great way of getting to know a city as well and Munich's very safe so I don't have to worry about ending up in a dodgy area.
