I had an appointment with a specialist recently and I expressed the desire to have diagnostic laparoscopy for endometriosis. The specialist recommended that I try taking hormones in the meantime to see if that helps with pain management. He said that by taking hormones I could control my period and choose how often I wanted to come on and when I wanted to come on. (I'm 23 and in my 11 years of experiencing periods I don't think it's THAT simple. No offence to him.) Has anyone tried out hormones for managing endometriosis and how did it go for you?

Hormonal treatment for Endometriosis
I am currently on norethindrone acetate 5 mg since the last 5 yrs. I had to go on and off the medication a few times. Note that for the time I am on the medication I don't get a period or the pain. Since everyone is different for me the way it impacted me was that every 8-10 months the symptoms would return Pelvic pain, cramps, mind fog, body fatigue, Gastro issues, severe lower back stiffness and nerve pain.
Stopping the medication and going back on it after 3 months and then get a period. This cycle we repeated every year but it was very painful and disruptive to my system. I am also recovering from 2 spine surgeries which did not help distinguish these sysmtpotms for a long time. I have had endo for 15yrs but it is only in the last 5 yrs where they started treating me with hormone's therapy targeted to Endometrioses. This was all based on my symptoms since they had not been able to catch it in laparoscopies or any tests. This last month we finally did an MRI of both abdomen and Pelvic which surfaced both Endo & Adeno outside the uterus. Defining it as disbursed Endo.
This month I was at the end of my 10 mth cycle and in lots of pain. My dr tried to switch me out to a new medication called MYfambree which is supposed to be the new medication. However, I had sever side effects with that and kinda still going through it.
We have moved back to norethindrone acetate 7.5 mg an increased dosage of the medication seems to be helping me. I hope this helps. Stay strong.
