Thyroid results

I had been feeling very tired and felt low mood so went to the doctor. They checked my thyroid and the TSH was 9.07 and T4 16.7. My antibody test was over 500. My doctor when spoken to kept asking was I depressed which I'm not. . I have all the classic symptoms, feel cold all the time, virtually no eyebrows, tiredness that seems to come and go and mood that wavers. If my thyroid is struggling what can I do to help it. Doctors not interested. What vitamins would help.

I'd try a different doctor to be honest, you're definitely hypothyroid and need to be given T4 at a minimum. Some doctors insist on waiting until your TSH is at 10, but you're so close anyway.

I personally found Izabella Wentz Hashimotos Protocol (book) really helpful. It's worth trying meantime, but you do still want to find a doctor who will treat you.

There is also a very helpful thyroid group on here, where you might find a bit more help on e.g. finding a thyroid friendly doctor near to you. It's called thyroid UK but had members from all over.

Thanks for your comment. I will check out that book. Changing doctor is something perhaps I should look into but I don't know where to start - how do I know if another doctor will say anything different. They seem to have guidelines to stick to regardless of how the patient feels.

You need to join the Thyroid UK page on this website, as with those results at the very least according to NICE guidelines you can trial some Levothyroxine as the clinical picture i.e. your symptoms suggestive of Hypothyroidism anyway.

See section Treating subclinical hypothyroidism and point .1.5.4 on NiCe Guidelines nice.org.uk/guidance/ng145/...

Don’t be afraid of reminding the GP of above as they love NICE Guidelines.

And here’s the Thyroid UK page healthunlocked.com/thyroiduk

Thank you for the link - I didn't know how to join the Thyroid group and have just done that. Also thank you for the NICE guidance. It all makes sense now why they are not giving me treatment - my numbers aren't bad enough yet - doesn't matter about the symptoms, but as you have stated perhaps if I push them on point 1.5.4 it might change their mind. I really appreciate this help. I have been made feel it's all in my mind and that I am unstable mentally rather than have a physical problem.

You are most welcome. And, remember, you are not alone with these type of experiences. Plenty of us will support you. You’ll find the group helpful x

You need to know the reference ranges for those tests (request a paper copy or download them if you have online access) But they look pretty hypo to me.

Definitely join Health Unlocked Thyroid UK, as someone else said. They are brilliant there, and you'll get the best advice.

You may well be deficient in vitamins and minerals, as lots of hypo folk are, but ask for info on the Thyroid UK forum.

You probably also need to talk to a different GP!

Many thanks. I have joined the Thyroid group and will check out what vitamins I could perhaps take to help me. I appreciate you getting back to me.

Oh good, they are the best I've found in UK You may well need thyroid medication too. Get all your test results with their reference ranges, plus any vitamins and minerals tests you get. The forum will always help with all those .

I'll see you on there!

Just wanted to add to this… get access to your health records via GP or NHS apps (there are a few health apps around that GPs use eg. Airmid, but NHS app is most useful as your can book appointments for specialists etc). Speak to Practice about access if you That way you’ll have real time results x
