Fibroid found with symptoms .. specialist says it is too small

Hi, looking for some advice please. I was referred to gynae oncology due to finding an irregular mass in my womb. I had my appointment today and they said it was just a polyp, but they should remove it.

My much bigger concern is based on the fact that this time last year, I very suddenly developed a distended stomach and very quickly I looked pregnant.

My scans also showed a fibroid which today I was told is just 2cm. I was 99% convinced that the mass would be just a bigger fibroid because that would explain my huge stomach.

The specialist was absolutely adamant that the fibroid is too small to cause symptoms and therefore said it would only be removed via hysterectomy but that it is not needed.

I have a very very poor history with negligent doctors and the size of my stomach tells me that something is wrong. I quickly developed a pregnancy belly for 10 months .. it has reduced a little now .. but still big nearly 12 months on.

Can anyone confirm their experiences of whether a 2cm fibroid can or cannot cause such stomach swelling please?

I'd ask for a second medical opinion.

I have an 8cm fibroid and it’s not caused any swelling.

Your symptoms don’t sound fibroid related as 2cm is tiny, definitely ask for a second opinion.

With prior bloating in the stomach I would definitely get a second opinion, preferably from a doctor trusted by a friend, etc. Just because the fibroid is small doesn't mean it shouldn't be treated. And I would not get a hysterectomy without a second or even third opinion. Lazy doctors who want to keep their standing high often do not want difficult cases and they take the easy way out. It makes them look better.
