Recurrent thrush

Hi everyone,

I have stage 3 endometriosis and was receiving prostap for 6 months. My periods stopped and came back in February this year after stopping prostap in November. Since coming back I have been experiencing 1-2 episodes of thrush (mostly prior to my period starting). I have to take fluconazole and clotimoxazole each time.

I am at a loss what to do, I have type 2 diabetes but diet controlled for 3 years and recent HbA1c was 33 so not caused by high blood sugars.

I feel dirty and uncomfortable all the time, is there anything else I can do?

🤔 Depending on where you live, different meds’ might be offered..

If your symptoms are severe, or you have frequent yeast infections, your doctor might recommend:

Long-course vaginal therapy. Your doctor might prescribe an antifungal medication taken daily for up to two weeks, followed by once a week for six months.

Multidose oral medication. Your doctor might prescribe two or three doses of an antifungal medication to be taken by mouth instead of vaginal therapy. However, this therapy isn't recommended for pregnant women.

Azole resistant therapy. Your doctor might recommend boric acid, a capsule inserted into your vagina. This medication may be fatal if taken orally and is used only to treat candida fungus that is resistant to the usual antifungal agents.

Thank you for your advice, I’ll contact my GP and see what they say. I completed at 7x day course of fluconazole in April but still the thrush persists every month. We’re hopefully having an embryo transfer in July so will see what they recommend

🙂 I suspect med’s might be kept to a minimum given your upcoming procedure. I hope all goes well 🙂

I would have suggested trying to reduce sugars but you seem to have considered that option. Eat natural yogurt, reduce or eliminate white bread and consider a really good quality probiotic maybe? You can also apply natural yogurt to the area.. But it is messy 😅

And I feel sorry for you, its horrible. Hope you get it under control soon, but if not be persistent in looking for different meds to try. There are lots out there, I had to take several when I was on chemo.

Thank you Teresa, I eat natural yoghurt and have a probiotic drink each day. Will apply some yoghurt to the area to see if that helps, thank you for your advice it is appreciated. It’s just strange how it occurs pre and post my period which I’ve never had before up until my periods restarted 😞
