Oral thrush for 5 months

Hi, I was wondering if anyone here has any advice on oral thrush. I've had it for 5 months my doc has changed my inhalers, been on lots of meds for oral thrush won't go away. I'm doing everything you are supposed to do to treat it, so uncomfortable, hot , sore swollen. Any advice or tips is much appreciated.

🤔 You’re probably all too aware of the treatment for oral thrush, but it is possible that the medications are actually working to make things worse. Generally speaking this would clear up after around 14 days of treatment, so if it lingers longer, the treatment may need to be looked at. If the problem hangs around too long it could cause Candida in other parts of the body.

Treating oral thrush

Oral thrush can usually be successfully treated with antifungal medicines. These usually come in the form of gels or liquid that you apply directly inside your mouth (topical medication), although tablets or capsules are sometimes used.

Topical medication will usually need to be used several times a day for around 7 to 14 days. Tablet or capsules are usually taken once daily.

These medications don't often have side effects, although some can cause nausea (feeling sick), vomiting, bloating, abdominal (tummy) pain and diarrhoea.

If antibiotics or corticosteroids are thought to be causing your oral thrush, the medicine – or the way it is delivered – may need to be changed or the dosage reduced.

What should you not eat if you have oral thrush?

The list of foods to avoid on the candida diet include:

High-sugar fruits: Bananas, dates, raisins, grapes and mango.

Grains that contain gluten: Wheat, rye, barley and spelt.

Certain meats: Deli meats and farm-raised fish.

Refined oils and fats: Canola oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil or margarine.

Thankyou for you're reply unfortunately all the meds the doc has given me have not worked , daktarin oral gel and Nystatin oral suspension, cordysol, salt water, doxycilin, have all failed. With this lock down its even more harder to try get much help from GPs, not there fault this has just happened at bad time.

😕 I know how difficult it is at the moment, my daughter ended up seeing a practice Nurse. Try keeping to the ‘diet advice’ to see if it makes any difference, if you haven’t tried Fluconazole try to get a prescription for that.

Oral thrush usually indicates a candida yeast overgrowth. I had oral thrush for about 2 months. I'm pretty sure it came from my gut. It took me about 14 days to clear my infection.

I purchased a good probiotic. You can also use lowfat milk Keifer to repopulate the good gut bacteria. I went off of all carbs and sugar. I took an Oil of Oregano supplement once a day. I purchased an antifungal mouthwash & a supply of toothbrushes so that I could brush my teeth with a fresh brush every time. That cleared my oral thrush. My doctor gave me some sort of nasal spray that he claimed would clear it but it didn't.

Hi nice to hear from you thankyou, I was at my doctor yesterday and told it was longer oral thrush , he looked again at all my blood results from over the past 3 months then actually diagnosed me with long term covid symptom . So in march when I first became extremely unwell and they moved me on to the revlar inhalers it was covid they are saying now.

Could it be oral lichen Planus? Worth asking your doctor

Hi thankyou for you're advice I've found out it was because of the new steroid inhalers that the doc had put me on because I had a lot of breathing problems. But the doc has changed my inhalers now and it's calming down😊👍
