Just posting this to show that LCHF does not have to be a huge heap of saturated fat. I'm getting a bit frustrated by people who hear that I'm "doing low carb", and they do not really understand much about it, are critical and make assumptions, and potentially influence other people away from what could be a wonderfully healthy and comfortable weight loss solution for them. Right... rant over!!
I am no cook, that's for sure! But these days I am happy to be able to quickly throw together simple, satisfying, tasty low carb meals that are fuelling my weight loss and improving health.
Wishing everyone very well on their own journey, in whichever direction that may be!

Thank you 😊 .. I don’t think my basic plates are worthy of joining the Lytham’s Larder recipes! But I’ll give it a try. If anything, I guess it shows people that even if you’re not confident in the kitchen it’s still possible to throw something nutritious together 😂
That all looks delicious! I'm avoiding bread, pasta, rice and finding I'm losing weight while still enjoying cooking with butter and using olive oil - but I calorie count as well! Thanks for the pictures.
Yes, me too. Love olive oil for so many uses, and today tried cooking with avocado oil for the first time. Very tasty, and good at high temperature. — I don’t usually count calories now , but I enjoy analysing numbers (oh dear!) so I will track carbs, calories, macros from time to time just for fun really. Lol!
I need to watch my portion size 😉 just "returned" after putting weight back on through mindless eating - oops! Choosing tasty colourful dishes and getting inspiration from posts like yours is really great!
Unfortunately, a lot of the "facts" that people recite back at you have been hammered into their heads by the press, TV, dietitians, politicians, and professionals who really ought to know better. Questioning authority is a lot harder than it sounds.
It's a funny old world we live in, where chemical-filled rubbish like margarine is promoted as healthy, and good old-fashioned meat and vegetables are terribly bad for you.
I feel so frustrated about it, and quite cross. I feel like I’ve should’ve been given this guidance many years ago when I sought medical advice. It’s science. It adds up. But you’re right about questioning authority. It can land people (even doctors) in very uncomfortable situations. I even feel nervous sticking my head above the parapet here!
It's understandable that people just accept what they're told by "experts". Only a few percent of the population in the West has a STEM degree, and of those perhaps only a quarter have some knowledge of or interest in life sciences - enough to understand human metabolism and nutrition. The rest just have to shrug and hope the professionals know what they're talking about.
Lol! No.. there’s plenty of hoo hah from many directions! 😂😭😂 I’m relatively new to all this malarkey, but it’s been a life saver. The LCHF forum has taught me all I know 👍
Oh yes, that's true. Those visual guides are so good for quick reference in the early days. Hidden I also use a low carb food and drink single page reference stuck to the front of my fridge so I can quickly and easily get an idea - I used it more in the early days, but am finding it not so necessary now I've got my head around it all a bit more. I don't think I can attach it here though. Not sure how!
Ah.. to hell with the potential hoo hah... I'll post it on the main page and anyone who is interested can grab it. I hope no copyright issues! I don't remember where I got it, but it's so useful.
Oh boy... sorry to be so behind in class.. how do I do the link thingy? I've followed your link to the post, but how do I add my link to a reply in that thread please?.. how embarrassing....
Click on the URL (Universal Resource Locator) for this post (the one in the bar at the top of the page, a long list starting healthunlocked.com ) when you select it hold your finger down and you’ll be offered the chance to “copy” (or copy link)
Then go to Lytham Larder and write a reply then hold your finger down in a space until the option to “paste” appears
Hope this makes sense? Can you tell I’m no expert? 😂
Lovely food cosmo! And I always love to see how other people adapt this lifestyle to meet their own needs! I've posted my own week's meals in pics few times asking others to share their meals too.. Always interesting to see!
Like you I tend towards an adapted Mediterranean style diet.. Im a pescetarian so I don't eat meat but i no longer fear saturated fats so I eat a fair amount of cheese and cream, lots of fresh fish, plenty of veg and nuts and lots of vibrant colour!
I agree there are misconceptions about lchf and its a pity because it can be a very healthy, happy way to eat!
Yes, I think some people do just naturally eat a lower carb, higher fat diet. my problem was that health advice I had been given over the years led me to eat far too much fruit and other ‘healthy ‘ carbs. Are you on a weight loss journey?
