I have been looking at magnesium chloride supplements. They are supposed to help with managing low mood and anxiety.n
My friend suggested that I buy some body cream with magnesium chloride. It is supposed to help with depression and aid sleep. Also it seems that magnesium is absorbed well by the skin.
I bought some, while it smells lovely, I just find it sticky and irritating. Such a shame as it wasn’t cheap,
Has anyone tried magnesium chloride in tablet form? I really want to try and support my self in the depression fight, but don’t like being sticky🤪

I took magnesium supplements for a couple of years. Please be aware of taking too much though. I got recurring upset stomachs, including awful stomach cramps. The cause turned out to be excessive magnesium in my system.
It turns out I was already getting plenty of magnesium in my healthy vegetarian diet!
The problem with supplements is that they aren’t regulated so you don’t get a contraindications leaflet with them - if I had I could have saved myself many days of illness!
If you do want to go ahead and try it, there are sprays available rather than the creams which don’t leave a sticky residue - you spray your feet at night.
Good luck supporting yourself to overcome depression.
Thank you, that is really useful information. I am a vegetarian of 30 years + and I feel in my heart that I get enough Magnesium from food, but you know what it is like, you want to do the best you can.
I didn’t know about the effects of Mg on stomachs, and I am really glad that you told me. I have Crohnes disease , suffer enough with bad gut pain. Tablet form magnesium is probably not for me. The foot spray may be a good idea, or I may just not bother, if I see no benefits.
I agree about supplements being poorly or unregulated. We need to be very careful.
Oooh, yes, if you already have stomach issues it's worth really checking side effects. I do have to clarify that I was taking the maximum dosage per day, and once I'd analysed my diet, was getting more than enough from my food!!!
It's probably worth trying the foot spray as you can get scented ones which might help set the right calming tone if you use it at night, and a bit of self care can have a positive effect on our minds too.
I've been taking magnesium supplements for a few years now. They help to reduce cramping and mood swings related to my cycle. I only take one tablet every other day at the most, so hopefully that won't be an issue. I'm not a vegetarian and I've no idea how much I'm getting from my food. 😕 I do have stomach problems for other reasons, so I wouldn't know if the tablets are contributing to that.
I’d not thought of the ‘every other day’ option. That is useful. I am glad that the pills are helping with mood and cramp. I suppose it is finding a balance between the downsides and the benefits.
