Hi all,

I was diagnosed with heart failure in October. After learning and integrating everything I need to, to maintain my health, my last task is losing weight. I am very over weight, my starting weight was 21 stone 12lb, I lost 2lb this week. I've struggled with my weight ally adult life. I previously lost 8 stone 7lb, to qualify to have a gyne surgery, but when I went on high dose steriods for three years, I gained it all back. Here to share my journey and share your experiences X x

Hello and welcome, woodygilly1 :)

Hi woodygilly1, you have previously lost a great deal of weight in the past so congratulations 👏

My husband had heart surgery on the 22 dec, (out on the 28th). We go for a walk every day (unless the weather is foul) . I go with him incase he falls over, especially in the snow and ice that we have just had. We have built up to 8 kilometres.

He also does stretches to rebuild the muscles and connections between his cut nerve ends and his brain. He now uses small (very small) weights. I join him as it can be lonely on your own.

When he sits down he sets an alarm on his phone for one hour. When it goes of we go up and down the stairs 10 times (5 if he is having a bad day). We do this because it keeps the blood pumping and its thought that moving or just standing is beneficial for you. Have I noticed a weight loss? Honestly, no, but I do feel a lot less sluggish and we talk more.

He is now much more co-operative with my meal plans and does not undermine my efforts of my meal planning ( well not much, so far).

I know that steroids interfere with your insulin and other triggers to you body to store fat so this will be a lot harder for you . I think what I’m trying to say is your journey will be different to others on the forum so don’t get discouraged when others see the weight melt of and you are seeing a trickle. Cheer them on and keep on your own path.

You’re not doing this on your own.

They are a very supportive lot on this site.

You could ask others who have been/are on steroids have coped and what setbacks they have had.

Welcome and good luck. X
