Hello I'm Sarah and I've been following the NHS plan since the 13th June (I posted on the Tuesday weigh in this week). I have 3 stone to lose so it's going to be a long journey. I've lost 2.5 kg so far.
On Sunday I go on holiday to the West country for 2.5 weeks. It's a mix of hotel and self catering but with friends and family so I won't be able to weigh each ingredient or monitor the recipe like I've been doing at home. I guess I'm going to end up putting that all on again and perhaps more.
Has anyone got any tips for me?
Cheers,
Sarah

Well done in losing 2.5kgs so far that's great. If you can't weight out food while on holiday then just keep an eye on your portion sizes so it will limit any gain. Have a lovely holiday.
Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.
Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.
Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.
Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

Thanks Rose, yes I guess I'll have to figure out portion sizes by eye.
I'm sure you will have started some good habits over the past couple of weeks, SewMore . My tip would be to be careful with alcohol. Not just because it's calorific, but because it weakens your resolve! And another tip is that you will have access to lots of lovely fresh fish where you're going, so take advantage of low calorie deliciousness!
And just remember, you are in this for the long haul. Even if you put back on some of the weight you lost, you know you can do it now, and that the 12 week plan works, and that we are here to support you, so just climb back aboard the wagon with us when you get back. Have a really lovely holiday!
Sounds like you'll have a great time with your family and friends!
I would suggest you relax and enjoy your vacation. Not to say go mad, but keep on eye on your portion sizes and fill up your plate with lots of fruit and veggies so you don't have as much space for the more calorific stuff!
Also try to get in plenty of walking, that will help limit any damage! I understand the West Country is supposed to be a beautiful area so I'm sure there are plenty of places you can take advantage of the scenery.
Have a wonderful trip and you'll manage just fine!
And if you do put on a few pounds, you'll get right back on and we'll all support you on the way back down.
Hi look at the other weeks in the NHS plan- one week covers alcohol and another covers eating out. Mainly avoid or limit creamy sauces and spirits with mixer tends to be better than wine. Enjoy your holiday and don't worry if you put on weight- its a holiday and everyone needs a treat now and then as long as it is not very frequent
I would look at it this way, if you hadn't started your new lifestyle after your holiday you would be even heavier than you were. Now you have the chance to still be lighter than you were if you follow the good advice above. So watch the portion sizes and the booze, but not at the expense of enjoyment and you will be in good shape. As an example when I am away I avoid sausages at breakfast, but still have egg and bacon or avoid too much beer and have gin and slimline tonic. That way I feel like I am on my hols without it turning into a calorie car crash! Also, when you are away you are often more active which helps. So in summary enjoy yourself, make some sensible food choices but still have some treats, keep active and you will be in good shape. Have a great time.
Hello Sarah, hope you have a wonderful holiday and a question for you. At home do you have a portion control plate? You know the ones that have sections marked out on the plate? If So make sure you pack it. I’m sure that will help you. Well done on your weight loss so far. If you have a sweet tooth get some low calorie biscuits, like ginger snaps or coconut rings...Sainsbury’s sell them, and have a couple of those to help with the sweet craving. I usually have 2 at my mid morning coffee break. The biscuits are around 45 calories each. Don’t know what else to suggest. Do you friends and family know you are trying to lose weight. If so tell them you don’t want to mess up on this break and ask them to tell you if they think you’re overstepping the mark. Anyway Sarah have a great time and post a pic or two of your resort. Take care xx
