Hi all, I love the idea of this fitness is fun challenge. I downloaded an app that counts my calories and another one that counts the steps I have done. Looks like I need to walk 5,000 steps a day to get to a healthy bmi. I couldn't manage 5,000 at first so I set it a few weeks back to be 500. Kept increasing it every few days once I got comfy with that and I am now doing 4,500. Its a start. the other app has helped me focus on eating healthier. Has any one else found using a tracking app has helped with exercise and diet?

I don't count steps but I do use the NHS Active 10 to count minutes of brisk walking. I find it useful because it stops me just strolling gently around, which all counts as steps but doesn't do much for my health and fitness. Here's the Active 10 forum if you're interested healthunlocked.com/active10

I've never liked counting calories so that's not something I do. But all the best with your journey.

Hello and welcome. I use apps a lot, all sorts 😊I find it interesting to log the data and see the trends. I log the food and daily steps, another app logs the data from the body analysing scales each week. I also have an app to log my fasting hours. Then I have an app that is a virtual challenge where I walk around Iceland :) I believe some people would find it too much and maybe tiring, but for me it really works. I also got my dad ‘addicted to green bars’ as he puts it - he now very diligently goes for walks so he can get the green bar at the end of the day, previously my mum had to work a bit in order to get him out for a walk 😀

N-o-r-d-i you sound like the Queen of apps. 🤣 The virtual challenge around Iceland sounds good, I enjoyed my time in Iceland a few years ago :) It's great that you have encouraged your Dad to get 'the green lines' :)

N-o-r-d-i the Queen of Apps - I can almost sense the name change coming 😂 it does sound a bit overboard when I lost them, but I’d rather go overboard with apps than overboard with food and kilograms 🙃

Hello and welcome to the forum rainbow catcher (nice name :) )

Well done for increasing your steps. I used to wear a fit bit and found it encouraging, but have to admit I haven't worn for ages. I personally don't use any apps, but if they encourage you, that's great.

Not quite ready to do weigh ins. To be honest my scales are awful. I can stand on and off them three times in a row and get a different reading each time. they are digital weight watcher scales. Having to take an average between the three numbers to guess which is correct. So frustrating. Can't say I know for definite what my weight is when it does that. Will have to buy a mechanical set. I thought digital scales were more accurate.
