Hi all, I'm a newbie on here, I've totally given up sugar and sweetener and feeling really great, except my weight loss is really, realty slow, I need to lose 3 stone, I've lost a stone prior to giving up sugar using SW. But really wanted to try this to cut out my sugar cravings in particular my chocolate addiction. I have a few sugar free snacks that I can make myself or buy and I do limit those, I eat a big bowl of oatmeal most days as lunch or tea, made half half with ss milk or oatmilk and water, topped with a chopped banana and seed mix and grapes and that keeps me full and satisfied and then a home made meal, a cocoa before bed made with water, but I can't shift much weight, I'm also, recovering from a hamstring strain, so makes exercise difficult as I cannot walk out much as my leg gets really sore, I also have bad knees, which I am struggling with because of my weight and I want to help them as they are also restricting my exercise as they are painful, I'm 61 any help would be gratefully received.

I see you are not a complete Newbie Stephm60, as you did join us in August last year.

Slow weight loss is good in my opinion. To be able to say that shows you are sticking with it, and the weight is going down.

I think you would find it really helpful to join in more here. Why not find a Weigh In and post there every week? And I think you would find it really helpful to post your meal plans on the Daily Diary, saying which plan you are following, as people may be able to offer better advice on your choices and whether you are eating more than you realise - or maybe not enough.

Please do revisit the Pinned Posts on this Forum to remind yourself of what is available here, and to access all the recent information on healthy eating for weight loss.

Wishing you all the best.

Of you lose weight quickly it's harder to keep it off.

Aim for 1-1.5 pounds per week.

It's best to lose it slowly.

Hello Stephm60 :) I agree with MissisB, the Daily Diary will be helpful in giving feedback on your overall meal plan .It sounds like you've done well on tackling the sugar. As a next stage, it's worthwhile finding out more about the foods that convert to sugar in your bloodstream, and they're not necessarily the obvious culprits.

Here are a couple of things that might be useful, plus a short video

Well done for ditching the sugar ! Just watch out for the natural sugars in bananas and grapes.

Would you like to join us on our weigh in? Here's the link, I hope to see you there! :-) x

Hi Stephm60

Well done for giving up sugar!

There are free chair aerobic exercises online that might suit you. It’s a way of exercising without having to use your knees. The exercises can be quite fun, energetic and increase your pulse rate.

Hello and welcome cullenskink. (Great soup 😉).

I think there are some great chair exercises on- line, so that’s an excellent suggestion.

I am guessing you would like to join us and maybe would like to lose some weight and become healthier? Hi Stephm60, I was in my 60s when I gave up trying to lose weight by WW, SW, low fat calorie controlled diets, and switched like you, to watching sugar intake instead. I lost the weight I needed to, without any change to my normal exercise routine which is mostly just brisk walking, so it wasn't the exercise that made the difference it was the sugar. But in saying that, I'm not talking just obvious sugar, but carbs that turn to sugar in the bloodstream - potatoes, oats, wheat, rice. To compensate for the lower carbs, I also started eating fats again (unbelievable, the devil itself so I'd been told) butter, cream, cheese, avocados, salmon, bacon with the fat on, chicken with the skin on, full fat milk. THAT's what stopped me feeling hungry (and angry) between meals. Lower Carb Higher/Healthy Fat has a forum on this website you might want to look at (LCHF).

Good luck! I have big problems with sugar and binging but what I've learned is that it isn't going to go away simply by having a period of not having them at all. For me, it's about addressing those underlying thoughts, being mindful of what I'm eating and working on a healthier relationship with food.

I did get to the point where I conditioned myself to just have 2 of my favourite choc truffles on a Wednesday (and enjoyed it), I got the box in November and I still have 2 chocs left (before, they wouldn't have lasted one evening).

Having no sugar at all may work for you, I'd just worry that at some point I'd have sugar again and then go nuts with it. I love sweet treats and want them to be just that, something I can treat myself to without binging! :)
