Just needing some diet buddies

Cat3333 profile image

Hi I am currently disgusted with myself and need to lose 2 stone at least. Put lots on in the past year, also developed sciatica making it harder to exercise. I'm convinced this was brought on by the weight gain. So just on here for some support to keep me motivated. I've just signed up for the 12 week DietChef vegetarian plan to keep me on track. Has anyone tried it with good results ?

Hello and welcome to the forum, Bigmamma3 :)

You'll find plenty of buddies here: just join in with forum activities, chat and encourage others and you'll soon make friends. A good place to start is joining a weekly weigh in and using the daily diary, where members share their meal plans. You'll find them, and everything else you need, by following this link healthunlocked.com/weight-l... to Pinned Posts.

I don't know the DietChef plan. I hope it's not too expensive. You'll find members following a variety of different plans and swapping ideas so just ask any questions as you go along.

Just a thought: your name sounds rather negative: you might like to change it for one that says something positive about you. You're making changes, now, so give yourself credit for that :)

Well done for starting, I haven't done that plan but I am vegetarian,I'm doing ww plan. I bulk up with pulses for chillies etc. Try to only have bread once a week if at all there are some great recipes around so am sure youl get on grand, wishing you a steady progress.

Thankyou dish70 yes bread is a major downfall so that's got to go

I also have sciatica it can be horrendous but keeping moving is best fir it, I find a hot water bottle helps if I'm sitting but I started doing basic yoga stretches in Feb after a fall and is helping its definately not as bad. X

I definitely feel better when I'm busy and doing stuff but my job requires me at a desk from 9-5 and it's a killer 😫

dish70 profile image
dish70 in reply toCat3333

Ooo yes that will do it. How about asking for a different seat or a standing desk. Or if that fails take a cushion for support x

Cat3333 profile image
Cat3333 in reply todish70

Dish70 tried all that. For some reason it's not going away this time. I'm hoping losing weight will help

Deary me seems you really have it bad, maybe you need a doc appointment, hope it settles soon x

Cat3333 profile image
Cat3333 in reply todish70

Been to docs too, just got pain killers which I dont really like taking but I need to. It's a bit of a vicious circle as losing weight would really help, yet it hurts to exercise lol. So diet it is with some easy exercise and see how it goes

Some gentle yoga perhaps in the morning. There are lots of yoga sessions online and ones that will meet your needs. I have a favourite that works for me.

Hi Cat, I have just posted for the first time and as you, put weight on passed my personal top target over the first lockdown and have tried most diets not yours though, went on fasting 800 on the first lockdown and lost a stone quite easily but stopped for a while and messed around after another weight gain! I’m on Noom the last couple of weeks through the free trial and lost 4 lbs. just paid up front for 8 months, Wow! That gets you focused! I also have arthritis etc. knee double replaced but got on my excercise doing Nordic Walking, just get out and do as little as you want, working up slowly and don’t be embarrassed you soon are in the zone, I’m at 8,000 steps after a few weeks, I only do one long walk a week as now, the poles get you really balanced and able to get your posture back, have a look on youtubeX hope something of this helpsX

Hi my daughter in law has suggested I try poles rather than a stick when out walking. She says I lean rather than walk upright...I will give them a go.I’ve had double hip replacement and exercise is challenging but if I don’t do any i seize up!!

Good luck with the diet

8 months upfront that should get you focused 🤣🤣All the best

Hi 8 months upfront lol, I debated with 12 weeks 😊 But hopefully make us more determined to stick to it.I dont even enjoy walking tight now as it's really sore. I think if I can shift some flab from my butt itll ease the pressure on my back/legs. That's the plan anyway

Well I could have written your post, swopping sciatica for arthritis!! I was on here awhile ago but I have put on weight in lockdown and feel very fed up with myself. My granddaughter 5 asked me why have I got 2 tummies under my boobies...wow that hit home time -time to focus stop eating rubbish and drinking alcohol !

Sorry don’t know anything about Dietchef.

Anyway just wanted to say Good Luck and hope you will be losing the weight soon.

It is hard when you put on weight and the difficulties with health on top of that can be so difficult to deal with. I have in the past felt disgusted with myself when I have put on weight but as I have got older, I have tried to focus on my body as a tool that helps me life my life to the full and love it. Some CBT has helped as part of past diet regimes. I find the LCHF way of eating works for me and have recently purchased e bike which makes exercise so much easier and with the light nights, I can finish work and go for a short bike ride with the added battery boost as needed. Best of luck and you will find lots of support on this forum.

It's hard trying to find diet buddies when you're male, mainly because most men that are overweight don't really seem to care, and the ones that do care about their weight are usually really into their exercise. Same as my female friends, all the ones that want to help me are massively into exercise and fitness but don't seem to understand i'm not at the same level as them and therefore it just gets frustrating.

Same problem here but I have knee and back issues so it’s hard for me to do certain exercises. As for eating I eat healthy balances meals but my exercise is limited

ReginaldPerrin profile image
ReginaldPerrin in reply tojackiemlee

Yeah can relate to that, i have an issues with what i can eat so i can't really eat the low fat or diet foods because they often use sweetener in place of sugar.

Bear789 profile image

I avoid all sweeteners and very rarely have anything with sugar added. Upsets my stomach and makes me hungrier.....lots of people on here avoid unrefined carbs and concentrate on protein, vegetables, some fruit and whole foods like brown rice or pulses.
