I've only just joined this site but before joining I'd lost some weight by my self. For the last month I've regained and lost the same 10lbs over and over again, in doing so I've forgotten how to say no to myself and how to be disciplined. I've woken up today and literally wept. I'm stuck in this cycle of having a couple of good days then blowing it big style. Nothing seems to be helping, I can remember why I started, I know why I want to lose weight, I know my gain will be off quickly....I know all of it but I just don't believe it any more. I'd hoped that joining this site would help get me back on the straight and narrow but all I've done since Wednesday is gained 3.5lbs. I don't know what to do. I can't afford to not eat certain food groups so carb free doesn't work for me plus I don't have the time to cook fresh from meals. I'm struggling to exercise right now due to being off work with fatigue. I don't know what to expect by posting this, maybe just looking for a friend who understands.

Hi Hidden I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling stuck in a rut. I believe that ,that can happen to all of us sometimes.
May I suggest that you read some of today's Daily Diary and even have a go at posting you r meal plans. I can assure you it helps me.
You don't mention which,if any, plan you're following. Sharing that would help too. Star by thinking of things that you feel are sustainable, rather than focusing on what you consider to be impossible.

I've been using the NHS's calorie counting advice. It went really well for ages but currently I find it so hard to forgive myself for gaining weight back. Its almost as if I'd rather regain all the weight that I've lost and lose it all again than accept what's happened and start afresh. Insane.
I think we've all gained a little over the holidays. I know I'm still battling to lose what I gained by continuing to eat too much after Christmas.

I'm wondering if your "good days" are, in fact, restrictive days and that the following bounce back is inevitable as you're just plain hungry. I'm sure you have loads of demands on your time but I hope you'll reconsider finding time to cook meals from fresh ingredients: that's the best way of knowing exactly what you're eating. It's so important for your health and wellbeing, which is clearly something you care about.

Maybe. I'm constantly playing catch up from my latest binge. Havnt had a full fortnight on plan since Christmas eve.
Well, have a good look at your plan and see if it's right for you, sustainably. It doesn't sound as if it is. If you're too restrictive, it's bound to break down and then you end up beating yourself up.
If you want to continue counting calories, then make sure you're using the right range - you'll find it at the NHS BMI calculator - and start at the top of your range. See how that goes, then lower it gradually.
Alternatively, you might find this simple, gimmick free plan works better for you phcuk.org/wp-content/upload... No counting needed.

It's hard but does require some will power. I've been on my diet since Sept. 2019 and it will need to be a lifelong regime. I have lost 30kg and am now 125kg so there is more to go. You need to stop snacking, keep to a varied diet, preferably home cooked and get used to eating less food. It can be done but needs a few weeks to kick in.

I can really empathise with you. For months and years I really struggled with sustainable weight loss, and binged a lot. It was always "I'll start next Monday" because I wanted just a few more days of eating junk, but the cycle never ended. I do believe that it takes a completely different mindset to tackle lifelong weight management - it can be so difficult to push past that voice in your head. You need to find a reason, past just weight loss, be that feeling good, living longer, being lighter in your own body, and use that to propel you. You can't see weight loss as a diet plan because in reality, it's a lifestyle that you will have for the rest of your life. If you're still stuck in this mindset, then it's going to be really hard to make a permanent change. I'm always here if you need a chat or rant I still struggle sometimes but nowhere near as much as I used to. It's hard but we can do it with some help.

I think your name says it all. We're all great at finding reasons to hold off change, comfort eating, self hatred. Believing that you'll fail so what's the point. I know, I've been there more times than I care to remember. If like me you have a lot of weight to shed (not lose, you don't want to find it again 😁) it is very daunting. But every journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. You absolutely can do this, you deserve to be who you want to be. Baby steps, small changes and forming new good habits. Every day may not be perfect, but progress no matter how small is progress. Believe in you, I do x

Hi Justdoit517, sorry to hear you are stuck in that cycle - I’ve been there and it’s soul destroying at times. I think you’ve been really brave to post. One of the things I’ve done in the past is to forget about weight loss for a short time and just focus on eating 3 healthy meals a day and once I’m back in a routine with that then I start weighing myself. I know it’s hard when you are busy at work etc but I would encourage you to focus on non processed food and meal prep where possible. Once you get into the swing of it, it will save you time (and probably money). I also get loads of ideas (including quick lunches and dinners) from using the Daily Diary too 😊 you can get your focus back - I’m sure of it! 😊
