Hi everyone. I'm Mandie and I'm 48. Iv been on the big side all my life really at my largest I tipped the scales at 19st 13lb 😩Over the years it slowly went down to 17.2. Iv tried every diet group and yes I'd lose weight but then as soon as I stopped the strict regime I'd just regain it. I got so down about my weight and I realised there was only me that could do something about it. So I didn't join a slimming club my husband and I decided to do it ourselves by counting calories....and it worked we did great. I got to,11st 2lb.....then I became ill. I was diagnosed with COPD amongst other ailments and since october I was on never ending steroids and if I'm honest the healthy eating went on the back burner. Iv gained almost 3 stones. I'm off steroids now and for the last 5 weeks Iv been counting calories and strictly sticking to it. Iv lost a few lb here and there but then today after a really good week , salad all the way I gained two! I could cry. I know I can do it ...I've done it before but somehow it's not happening this time. Iv joined in the hope that I can get some advice off other people in the same position and also to get and give support. Thanks for reading 😀

Hello Mandiemoomoos and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum

You have had quite a journey so far, and are still ahead of where you were so well done. Unfortunately steroids can cause all sorts of issues so you weight loss could well be difficult, but not impossible. The trick is to be patient and accept a new way of eating for life. Trust me the rewards are worth it 😀 Have a good read of all the links below, especially finding your calorie target, this is so importang for long term sustainability,

Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask

Best wishes

Anna

Have a look at thyroid uk health unlocked forum and post latest blood test and make sure you are not undereating. I have found aiming to lose 1 pound a day on myfitnesspal which is a calorie counter very helpfull with a reaistic calorie goal. Also you might find overeaters anonymous helpful if you dont mind spiritual or religiuos practices.
