Why I'm currently taking a break from weight loss + seeking tips from those who quit smoking whilst eating well

So I was never the most active person on here but I've been on a break for quite some time.

I've been taking Varenicline (Champix) for a while and been smoke free for 23 days now. The treatment is meant to be 12 weeks long.

I never thought I'd be able to quit before taking this medication but I seem to be doing ok.

The downside? Weight gain plus I am hungry all the time. I'm sure I will have gained as much as I lost previously.

If anyone has any tips on healthy eating, who has gone through this treatment, I'd love to hear from you.

Ultimately if I just have to go with the weight gain during treatment, I can live with that and loose the weight after. I don't know if I can pull both off at same time so it is a matter of the lesser of 2 evils.

Hi, I thought I hadn't seen you around. Good luck with giving up the smoking, it will definitely help you to live longer and healthier. It's a shame people often put on weight when they give up smoking but you know you can lose weight so you can focus on this once you have got your smoking habit crushed completely! Good luck

I'm afraid I can't help you with your specific query, thero, but I gave up smoking and started eating healthily, at the same time. I did both, cold turkey!

I had quit smoking and over-eaten and eaten healthily and chain-smoked before, but made the decision to go for a healthy lifestyle, rather than a 'diet', or a 'quit'.

To start with, it was just down to willpower, but it got easier, as time went on and is now a way of life. I've been 2 years smoke free and have lost 7 stone, so it is possible, but you have to break the bad habits for both vices, without a crutch from one, or the other :)

Wishing you all the very best. Be strong, be confident, you can do this! :)

Wow thats impressive, my experience is that will power is finite, although can be developed like muscles.

I currently have bpd so alot of energy goes into functioning normally, there was a time when I struggle to do even that.

But I know I will get to a place that is smoke free, wholesome eating and active eventually :)

I'm afraid I have no experience of bpd, but can imagine that it would make everything unbelievably difficult for you!

I found that there are triggers, that make good intentions fly out of the window, so learned to pre-empt them, by filling those moments with a different activity. Going for a walk, after meals, with no food/drink/cigs/money, is a good one :)

We're all rooting for you! :)
