Hello and welcome, lazymancalledc :)

"Watching what I eat" is very vague, though I'm not saying it's wrong. I suggest you spend some time looking around the forum, particularly at the Daily Diary, and deciding what that will mean in practice.

As for Tesco's meal deals, I'm sure you know the saying, "If you always do what you always did, you'll always get what you always got". Are you up for changing? Spending a bit more time in the kitchen? Making meals from fresh ingredients? Planning your meals? Because that's the way you're most likely to turn things round. Drastically cutting your intake and making yourself miserable is unlikely to work in the long run.

Have a look at this straightforward plan phcuk.org/wp-content/upload... - just real food and no gimmicks.

You'll find everything you need to know about the forum in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/weight-l...

And, if you haven't already, you can take a tour of the forum here healthunlocked.com/?tour=true

Take your time exploring, ask questions, join in, encoruage others and it will all pay off for you :)

Hi lazymancalledc and welcome 😀

Have a look around and you will see many people using different plans plus lots of acronyms which may be confusing.

If I can give 1 tip to get you started it would be to get your carbs under control. Carbs are the main fuel for the body but as I discovered recently, can drive cravings. I would suggest cutting out refined carbs like pasta, rice and bread plus maybe starchy veg like potatoes. Perhaps start with your evening meal.

Wishing you all the best here and don't be afraid to ask for advice

Don't forget to replace your carbs with fat, otherwise you're basically "running on fumes".

It's one of those persistent myths that "carbs are the main fuel for the body". It simply isn't true. Your body has a comprehensive set of conversion pathways to shove an assortment of random stuff into the Krebs cycle - ultimately, that means either pyruvate or acetyl-CoA. Carbohydrates are just one possible substrate.

Since we're not carnivores, human bodies can't use amino acids very effectively as an energy source. In other words, don't attempt to do low-carb, low-fat, high-protein : you'll feel terrible.

Hi, i agree with Tank. I've tried different weight loss methods over the years and by far the most effective and easiest to follow has been reducing my carb intake. Its true the cravings, or munchies as i call them, go away so sticking to 3 meals a day with no snacking hasnt been a problem.

Also whilst exercise is good dont worry if you cant add in extra. I have a damaged knee (since mid July) so my mobility is a few minutes at a time on a rollator (wheeled frame with a seat) and my weight is still going down - now on week 13 of this change of life style eating.

Good luck xx

Please do not take umbrage however I would like to share my post Covid-19 experience.

I am in my mid-years and was affected by this illness in March 2020. I was a carnivorous muncher of Pizza, Chicken Nuggets, Sausages, Burgers and all the other fast foods which contribute to obesity and place males at risk of Prostate Cancer. I also enjoyed a pint or two in addition to the odd tipple, I am sure you know how it is. Then I would pop into the beer garden for a quick smoke. So in all essence my behavior resembled that of the stereotypical dick head that was causing so much concern for the NHS and ultimately putting NHS funding and resources at risk.

In April when the medical experts made the like between diet, obesity and Covid-19, I had to make a choice... ... ...

Was I going to resemble a dick head or was I going to accept Boris Johnson"s call to arms and think of the country and the effect my behaviour was having and the risks I was placing on the NHS.

If Boris Johnson could take exercise to reduce his weight and BMI why could I not do the same. Smoking weakens the respiratory system so I decided to kick toking into the long grass, I always knew alcohol use was not good for the body so I decided to go teetotal. Now the final challenge to jack the pies, bangers, pizza's and other fat saturated fast foods, so I looked for the ultimate inspiration and for the country I think so much of I did not want to be a liability on its NHS balance sheet so I decided to adopt a plant and dairy based diet.

6 months later I am training for my first official half marathon, my body weight is between that of a welterweight and super welterweight, my BMI between 19.5 and 20.5.

If I am able to stop smoking, stop using alcohol, and adopting a responsible plant and dairy based diet I am sure that if you really feel empathy and want to show responsibility to the country and NHS you shall also follow suit.

Start your excersise slowly but stay focused gentle running 5 days a week and promise yourself not to be a dick head or hang around dick heads who only talk the talk but cannot walk the walk.

Make a choice and show some support and responsibility for the NHS.

I trust this advice helps and is of use, kind regards Tony.

Thanks for the words of support.

The mantra and message is simple.

Marcus Rashford scored easy points by criticising Boris Johnson & Matt Hancock regarding free school meals. How much does this country waste on unnecessary weapons and armaments.

Parents should spend less on alcohol, smokes and fast food.

How often does one see Marcus Rashford bigging it up with a few pints, a few tabs and a quick greasy bucket of fried chicken or kebab.

Save the planet and create a sustainable future to defeat long Covid and reduce obesity by adopting a vegetarian diet supported by low fat dairy products 🙂.

I don’t agree with the obesity with vegetarian diet and low fat dairy products.

I’ve been obese all my life trying 100s of diets including all the low fat rubbish,

I came on this site by accident joined have had amazing support from so many people since May. I’ve lost 5 stone 4lb and it’s all thanks to LCHF low carbs high fats it’s the first eating plan I’ve ever been on that I got such results and I’ve come of insulin.

Excellent effort.

Maintaining a healthy weight is imperative especially if we genuinely care about the NHS.

Exercise is also imperative to strengthen the bodies immune system against the long-term effects of Covid-19.
