Hi, I'm new to the forum. I started my new eating and exercise regime in February and have done really well - lost one and a half stones, and averaging 50 miles a week of walking.

Now the weather is turning colder and the days are shorter I am really struggling with motivation to get outside and walk. I am so worried about putting the weight back on!

Any tips for keeping focused in the winter months?

Fantastic. Well done!

Wrap up warm and walk faster? Maybe try jogging. That has really helped me and I am always surprised at how wpqyickly I warm up.

Good luck over the winter....

Good morning Norni,

Maybe your fingers were jogging on 😄 Proud of you too for getting out there and jogging.

I used to jog and loved it but then I had a stroke and just can't seem to get back into it : /

You are right. I should just wrap up and stop moaning. On that note - where is my coat, it's time for a walk!

My motivation for walking is my job because I go to work and back home on foot :D

But speaking of walking as exercise, I'm not into it in winter times. I prefer to swap it with some home exercise videos on Youtube. Because for me, exercising should be something to enjoy and not something to force yourself to do. And going outside at 30 degree below zero is not something I enjoy :D

Thank you for your reply. I've tried videos, including walking videos and not found them very enjoyable. I'll bear them in mind for when the snow comes!

I no longer work as I retired at 50, so don't have the benefit of a set routine. I try to get out several times everyday, most times without the car. I love to walk, I just don't like the cold.

Thankfully we get nowhere near 30 degrees below zero here. I'll just invest in warmer clothes.

On weekends if I have time and I need to go to a store I usually opt to go to the one further from my home to add a little extra exercise. Mostly because I don't know how to go for a walk without a goal. I need to know where I'm going and what for. So maybe that could help? :)

Good morning Survivor 235689,

You must be so proud of yourself, I'm proud of you.

Also 50 miles a week walking, that's so good.

As for the cold dark winter days ahead.... Maybe when people ask you what you would like for Christmas you could ask for vouchers or money to put together towards a tread mill : )

Keep up the fab work and I hope I can follow in your footsteps.

Hi Sheepdogs thank you for your reply.

I am looking at what classes my local Sports Centre holds. I live in the sticks so not a lot to choose from, but there is an over 50s morning that I am going to investigate.

I like to be out and about, so this may be an alternative.

Good luck with your exercise and food goals.

Like me I enjoy being outside and at 54 with Border collies who enjoy the outside seems to keep me a bit active but obviously not enough! I must admit I have got lazy 🙁 I think more dog walking is in order and going to sort Mr Motivator dvd out because I think he makes exercise fun : )

Good luck on finding something you would like at your sports centre.

Hi and welcome, survivor :)

Well done for already losing 1.5st, that's fantastic and 50 miles a week of walking is very impressive. You should seriously consider joining the Kilometre Zero challenge, for extra motivation on those chilly, winter days :)

Take a look at the Pinned Posts section, to the right of your screen (bottom, if you're using a mobile) and have a look at the Welcome Newbies thread.

Look at the Topics section beneath that, for posts that could answer any questions you may have. Consider joining any, or all, of our challenges, as they're fun and motivating.

Join us for the Monday Group weigh-in. If you follow Zest and myself, you'll be notified when we post the threads. The latest weigh-in thread can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page and remains open until 6pm on Fridays.

Be active on the forum, as that's where we exchange ideas and get our daily dose of motivation and inspiration.

Wishing you all the very best as you contunue your journey to health and happiness :)

Congrats on all you've achieved so far. Hope we can help you stay motivated! How about good music/podcasts/audiobooks to listen to as you walk. Plan your days around the short daylight hours or find places that are better lit for twilight/dusk walks. Also would you consider doing couch to 5k to ease yourself back into running? I also warm up quickly on my bike if you have a bicycle, but remember to keep your ears/fingers/feet warm... Also when the sun's out it's not so bad so look out for sunny(ish) days...
