Hello everyone.

I was referred by my GP to a weightloss club as I have high blood pressure which didn't really work for me as found it very stressful sitting in a group meeting if I hadn't had a "good week". I have been overweight for 20+ years and as I reach 50 I want to make lifelong changes so that I can be as fit and healthy as possible and get off the diet treadmill as it has had a negative effect on my emotional well being. I am going to print off the NHS 12 week plan and take time to "enjoy the journey". Vickers x

Hi and welcome, Vickers70 :)

A lot of us know all about that diet treadmill, so I invite you to have a look at these healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and phcuk.org/wp-content/upload...

Follow this link to our chat thread and a list of all the activities we run. We've found active participation to be key to success, especially with our weigh-ins and Daily Diary.

Hi Sue and welcome.

I'm not sure I'd like to sit in front of a bunch of people telling them how I overate during the week. Strangely (or maybe not), I don't mind doing that here and even find it essential in order to stay honest with myself. Additionally, if I can't be honest here, how can I get useful advice and support from all the wonderful people here.

Moreless has given you an idea of a different approach but whichever path you decide on, you've got the right idea about enjoying the journey. Take your time, don't force the weight loss, don't bother doing any activity that you don't enjoy but do enjoy your food.

Good luck! :)

Thank you Tigerr. Feeling better already having made the decision to follow NHS plan. My eating has become so disordered I don't know what to eat and what a normal portion is! So much conflicting information that yesterday I ended up crying (which is not me!) because I had eaten so much chocolate and crisps I felt crap, tired, bloated, hormonal to name just a few feelings :-) I am 50 in January and do not want to spend the next 10 years doing / saying the same old thing. Time for a change x

I followed the plan back in 2017 and lost 18kgs in around 6 months or less. I loved the idea of it because it allowed me to carry on eating a bit of everything which is why I guess we like the idea of it.

Change can be very exciting if we embrace it and just go with it.

Well done for getting involved with the Tuesday day weigh-in. The other daily routine that helps many of us is to use the Daily Diary. This can also be found in the same place as the Weigh-in (under 'Events').

I joined the NHS 12 week plan last Monday and with that and the support on this forum I have managed to lose 7lbs in my first week. I realise it will come off more slowly now but using the plan is so motivating. I use the back of the page to write a daily note of what I eat. I am counting calories and if someone had told me 2 weeks ago that I would even do this or find it motivating then I would have said it wasn't for me. I have become adept at managing the calorie count but also starting to know the numbers now. I use scales and the Internet to convert. I am using scales less now as I can check back on my first week's page to get the calories. Anything new is added to my list on the back. There are many ways and eating plans to follow but writing on the back of the form is so useful. If you are following a different eating plan you can jot down what you eat, how you are feeling at the time etc. Best wishes for your plan and weight loss.
