Why is losing weight so HARRRRD? After a very healthy beginning of the year, I’ve just relapsed into all the bad habits. I have no desire for regular exercise, drinking a lot more now and just generally being unhealthy.
I need to find my way and mojo back please. Any advice or positive vibes would be appreciated.

Life tip: if something is unexpectedly difficult, it's probably cos you're doing it wrong
When you eat genuinely healthy meals, you'll feel a deep, visceral sense of contentment and vitality. You will also start to lose flab (because your body doesn't need it anymore - excess bodyfat is primarily a defence mechanism against an inappropriate diet). You will not feel inclined to "relapse" into bad habits.
Relapses tend to happen when people try to eat in a way that's either inherently unsustainable (eg., ignoring your appetite and restricting food intake) or which is inherently unhealthy (eg., too much stodge and too little fat).
😳 I was just reading your reply, and was thinking "oh T.A.T. you make it sound far too easy...".. I'd been feeling relaxed, well and focused for a few months eating-wise, and this last week has been a serious struggle. Really heading off in the wrong direction again.. then I REALLY read your reply... it makes oh so much sense. I always make the same mistakes. Overtime things, when are going well, I just start trying to push it too much, and end up having a backlash afterwards. So pleased to read what you've written. It has reminded me at just the right time... so I can stop my self destructive habits and just get back in a more relaxed mindset!

I started to believe that weight loss is only hard if we focus exclusively on it. My own weight loss happened when I finally stopped trying to lose weight and started to try to live every day a little bit healthier, one choice at a time. Then the weight loss came as a byproduct. Hopefully you can find what suits you, because it’s really not about losing weight, it’s about making sure to get and stay as healthy as possible.
Someone once said this to me: "Losing weight is hard. Being overweight is hard, with all the health risks that entails. Choose your hard". A bit harsh maybe, but that's the reality of it! So keep going Adisa . You know it's worth it in the end.
Hasn't body classification as a defining characteristic for health been largely discredited? 🤔
Genetics plays a part, but I think your weight is down to your activity, healthy eating and lifestyle. i don't think anyone should be deterred from healthier living because of any particular shape they perceive themselves to be. 😄
For me it was having a real reason to lose weight that I really believed in.
Initially that was my OH being rushed into hospital with dangerously high BP and realising what our unhealthy diet was doing to him and me. We have granddaughters we want to be around for . Once his BP was normal (tablets and change of diet/drinking) I realised that I was feeling so much better. The crap food and drink on top of healthy meals was just a habit that I no longer need. Now I have more superficial things that motivate me. Recycling clothes that are too big, having my curves back.
I don’t or should I say didn’t like regular exercise until I started exploring home fitness videos on YouTube. Now I exercise everyday and actually enjoy it. I also find that I am so much better motivated. My diet is generally healthy, nothing processed but like you I like a drink. Sometimes we just have to work at one thing and no try to do too many things at once. Stick to one thing for a few weeks then start on your next goal be it, food, exercise or drink.
Tomorrow is another day, would you like to draw a line under it and turn it around by joining us on our weigh in? Here's the link, hope to see you there! x
Hi Adisa, I've only been following a healthy diet for 5 weeks now, joined here last week. I've taken advise from my various doctors, nutrition nurse and hospital consultants and then I sat and watched a lot of utube videos on various "dieting methods", looked at lots of recipies for a healthy diet and from there follow the doctors on calorie intake and adjusted all the other info i could find to find foods that i like that will work for me. I'm a simple and basic eater, probably called old fashioned in some ways. I dont like sauces, not really into fruit and only like a smallish range of veg, and generally only tend to eat chicken and white fish.
Even so, i'm actually eating in a totally different way now and havent felt hungry yet. I have mushrooms on toast/omelette/poached egg on toast for breakfast. Lunch tends to be soup (500ml) home made, i bought a soupmaker a couple of weeks ago. For my tea i make a bowl (mixing bowl! Lol) of "salad" (normal salad stuff plus veg) then add soft cheese and either sausages, chicken, nuts, sultanas, banana etc. Once a week i have a jacket potato as i love them and dont not want to eat them. I guess what i'm saying is its ok to make up what you're eating and to just eat the things you like. I couldnt do this if i had to eat things i dont like.
Thank you, I'm so pleased to be finding this journey fun and easy at the moment. I've lost 13.1kg so far (still a long way to go) but i'm realistic enough to know that this will slow down/plateau but with all the support here and with a select few friends i hope to get through those stages too xx
