Hi I'm new to this forum, is it better to exercise before or after breakfast in the morning?

Hi and welcome, Slimcea :)

You've had an excellent reply from StillConcerned. Personally, I'm an early morning exerciser and don't eat breakfast, so I don't eat until lunchtime.

All of the information you need about the forum can be found in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and I hope you'll be joining all the Events, Challenges and Clubs that we run, especially a weigh-in and the daily diary.

If you haven't already taken it, here's a tour of the forum healthunlocked.com/?tour=true

We've found active participation to be key to successful weight loss and, of course, it's a good way to get to know people, find inspiration and share support and encouragement.

Wishing you all the best :)

Welcome to the site. Perhaps try exercising at different times at find what works for you? I find myself most motivated first thing so that works for me.

My understanding is that there may be slight benefit to exercising before breakfast.

I could find two studies:

* 2012 - 10 people - says yes (but it's such a small group) [1]

* 2019 - 30 people - also says yes. [2]

I tend to go for my run before breakfast because it's early, gets me going early and I have my daily weighing after my run but before breakfast.

I like it but I don't think it's a huge difference if you don't.

Exercising before breakfast, depending upon what you have and what exercise you do, means no waiting around for it to be digested before “jiggling that body”😀. Personally, I exercise before breakfast and in my running days ran for some long distances before breakfast with no bad effects.

I enjoy my breakfast much more if I have walked the dog first. I find nowadays I don’t really fancy breakfast if I haven’t been for a walk.
