Hey, I am a newbie starting my healthy living journey as of today!
My weight is 13st 7lb and has been increasing steadily over the past few years...I want to get back to being healthy, fitter and a whole lot lighter!
I have recently been diagnosed with high colesterol so striving for a healthier lifestyle is a must! I need to stop thinking about it and doing something about it. Hoping that joining the HealthUnlocked community will give me the motivation and support i need x

You are the same starting weight as I was when I started, I’ve been at an more acceptable weight for over four years, if I can do it so can you 😀
If you haven’t already then please read the Welcome Message in Pinned Posts here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... Please read it carefully so you can find all the information you need to find your way around the forum.
As a peer to peer support group we rely totally upon mutual encouragement. Nothing beats joining in, reading posts and replying to others. Our Group Weigh-in and the Daily Diary are probably the best places to start
Yes....stop eating all the wrong food...I am a snacker, crisps, chocolate and sugary snacks are my downfall, giving my head a wobble after a few months over over indulgance to the max..i have to do this!
I can so relate to that. I was a significant crispalholic before my diet. Went cold turkey on those (and many other carbs). The first two weeks were tough, but the cravings abated. For sugar I used the <5g/100g mantra to help me navigate low sugar foods. 😄
Snacking was a real issue for me too, I’d eat a “sensible” ie low calorie meal, get hungry and start to snack . . . A viscous circle. So my suggestion is to eat decent meals, don’t restrict too much, eat enough so that you feel full, and then you won’t need to snack 😊
I am in my first week also. I have found this site full of supportive and informative people. We all have something in common, the desire to make changes for the better in our lives.
So.. we are doing it!
Hi from London, UK> I am around your weight too.. will weigh in on Saturday, and hope I have lost a bit
Good Luck!
Hiya, same starting weight as me. I'm on week 2 and have lost 3lbs so far. I have trained myself to eat 1400 calories max, have smaller portions, eat slower and drink tons of water. I was soooo hungry at first bit that has passed. Exercise is a must even just a daily walk helps. You can do it!! Good luck on your journey - the final destination will be awesome!! 😁
Hi, how did you decide on 1400 calories? That's a generic figure that suits very few of us. Sounds as if it's too little for you. It really isn't necessary to feel so hungry while losing weight.
You could use the NHS BMI calculator to check the calorie range appropriate for you but more important is your choice of how you use those calories. If you take a few minutes to read this Diet Myth post healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... , it could help you find a sustainable way forward
This app states that 1400 is the correct level for women. My aim is 1-2lbs per week. I was hungry for the first week or so but soon settled. I was eating big portions with very little cardio which is why my weight crept up to 13 stone 7.
The 12 week plan is linked to the NHS BMI calculator so that everyone can get a personalised range. As they have that calculator, I don't know why they put that 1400 figure up front. It doesn't make sense that the same figure would be appropriate for you and for someone of 20 stones and someone of 10 stones, does it?
I would have thought that calorie intake would correlate with activity. A really active person could consume more calories than someone with a less active lifestyle. I agree that putting that 1400 figure as the recommended count is not great.
You're right, another reason one figure couldn't be appropriate for all women, The calculator takes your activity level into account as well as height, weight and age
Good luck to you Alvera. I'm just starting too, but am a stone heavier at 14st 7. Do you have a target weight?
