Ok so I am over 60, about 5’ 1” in height, feeling healthy enough and yet when the details are placed into the NHS BMI calculator I am classed as obese. My weight is 12st 6, and feeling awful about that result I am then told for my height and everything else my weight should be 9 stone something.
If getting on in life means that everything slows down in the body, how is that weight ever to be achieved? Oh dear, Oh dear. 😕

It may also help you to read this, as you sometimes seem to be a bit confused between the different forums healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...
As a reminder, all of the information you need about the forum can be found in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and I hope you'll be joining all the Events, Challenges and Clubs that we run, especially a weigh-in and the daily diary.
We've found active participation to be key to successful weight loss and, of course, it's a good way to get to know people, find inspiration and share support and encouragement.
How you getting on? Not bragging rather more trying to spur you on, I’ve dropped another 2lb. Not as much as last week but hey ho. Must get some exercise in! Been out for lunch and struggled to log calories ☹️
Hi. Just weighed in this morning after following the diet for a week. I’ve lost 5lb and 3” off my waist, chuffed to bits. I have avoided carbs and sugar though but a bit has slipped through the teeth, GET GOING! I’m on your case and expect a progress report, good luck x
Join the club! I feel the same. I’m eating less but the weights going up. I’m 61, 5’ and now 11 stone. I eat really healthy I think. I eat lots of meat and veg, fruit and cook everything from scratch. I consider myself active but don’t seem to have the time to ‘exercise’. I know if I go to 9 stone I’m scrawny. I’ve started the Michael Moseley program of 800 cals a day for 3 weeks and trying to walk a bit more often. I’ve lost 3lb in 3 days and never felt hungry. I’m quite enjoying it and feel good and energetic. Perhaps we can support each other Good luck x
Dear Paddedpeggy, thank you for your message. I have heard of Michael Moseley, is there a cookery book of his to follow? If you have any other wonderful advice, please share.

There is a recipe book to go with it. There is program on TV about it. The 2nd one was last night. You should be able to get t on catch up. The last one is next Weds. There are a couple of posts on here about it you might like to look at.
I am 5Ft 3 and was 83kg (13stone) when i started 2 years ago and BMI was in the obese category. I am late 50s and was prediabetic and high BP. I started calorie counting then found this forum and discovered LCHF which is what the Fast 800/mediterraean diet is. I am now around 66kg and no longer prediabetic and BP is normal. My BMI is now 25.4 which is just above the recommended healthy level but GP says is okay for my age.
You can do this by making changes to what you eat. You might like to look at MIchael Moselys books and the LCHF forum on here. Good luck
Hi Biomet, At 5ft 1, your BMI will be high for your weight ( sorry if that sounds harsh, but read on please). BMI is ony one of the tools that is used to measure your body so don't take that one thing as gospel and let it get to you. I didn't take up running until I was 60 and although it isn't a great fat burner, it gets the muscles going and gets you out. I will never be a long distance runner, I get bored, but can do about 5K and feel great afterwards. I started on the couch to 5K app and foud it really good. (Sounds like and advert ) I would suggest you get yourself an app. I use the Samsung one as it came with the phone but there are loads of them available. MyFitnessPal springs to mind. Use it to keep a trakc of your day and you will see what is going on. I know it may soud boring but weigh all of your food, it might be boring, but while you are doing that you know what you are eating. It's the snacks that ae the enemy! Crisps, chocolate, biscuits
Thank you for your reply and support 😊 Are you looking for help in your own weight loss journey or just visiting? Please let me know and I’ll sort out an official welcome

Hi biometric, I wouldn’t feel down hearted, it’s just a guide any loss is an achievement, just work on getting to 12 stone first. I wouldn’t think beyond that until you get there. Sometimes small tweaks can make a big difference. I’m similar age to you fair bit taller and a fair bit heavier. I need to loose 2 stone just to get out of obese to overweight. Im just looking at the moment to get out of the 15 stone club into 14 stone club. Can’t really look beyond that or it would be to daunting. Good luck, I’m sure you can do it and will get lots of support along the way.
