I am going to make sure this is not going to be my most recent failed attempt at loosing weight. I weigh just over 20 stone but unfortunately am not the 11'7" that my bmi chart says I should be, for that weight to be acceptable.... apparently for my height I should be half the person I am....!!!! Where to start...? I bought the scales as I knew it was bad, so I am not in denial.... I just need to get a grip and suck it up...!!! I could (and might yet) give all the excuses in the book about why a have got this huge and unhealthy.... but the real truth is to forget all of that and start a new chapter..... I will be here, trying, so please, if you have any words of wisdom, do share..... this is not going to be a walk in the park..... although I am sure that would do me good...!!!!!

Strap in, it is going to be a bumpy ride...!!
As asics said take one day at a time and have a look at the welcome newbies post it has lots of great information to help you, also there is an exercise challenge 20000 leagues under the sea, it is great for counting your km, good luck healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...
Hi Cagy, there's quite a few of us I think who are very overweight but when you read their posts it's very inspirational. Asics focuses on health, which I think is a brilliant idea. I have taken up that idea and wear a pedometer every day doing 8000 steps now. If I'm lower than that in the evenings I just walk around the house to get to that target.
I'm still struggling with drinking enough though but I'll keep trying.
Good luck with your journey it took a long time for me to get this size so it's going to take a while to lose it but it will be done. Onwards and downwards.
Here is going to be good for inspiration. I have 4 kids, a full time job and a smallholding. I have no time or money for clubs and weigh ins but think the support and sharing of ideas would help, so this is ideal....
Hi again Cagy,
I know you've read our Welcome Newbie thread, so I won't give you the link to that. Glad you're with us in the community, and hope you'll enjoy the forum.
I would definitely recommend a lovely walk in the park though!

Great post - very honest and I think your idea of starting a new chapter is a good one. Don't dwell on past failures just look forward to your positive experience this time. Plan, plan, plan - I think if you plan your meals and plan your exercise/activity you will stay on track and get there bit by bit. Have small goal posts so that you really feel you are starting to achieve something. Break it down and hopefully it won't seem so daunting. This forum is great and has lots of posts from loads of people all trying to do the same thing so you are never stuck for something to read or someone to respond to you. Good luck and no excuses this time
You have said it all yourself. Good on ya for trying again, failure is not accepting that you have a problem and refusing to take responsibility so yer off to a good start. I sense you have been there and done it, just like me. My salvation this time round has been exercise, so try and do that walk in the park and see whats out there. Its a helluva lot of fun.
Welcome to you Cagy : )
Everyone here is really lovely and supportive.
One of the things that has kept me going (literally) is a pedometer. I aim to do 11,000 steps a day, and if I am behind in the evening I stomp up and down the living room to catch up!
Another thing I have done is take my measurements and then review after a month. I will continue with this as even if the pounds are slow coming off at least I can see a decrease in my size.
Wishing you good luck as you start your journey.
Merrymanda
Just want to wish you good luck and to say you are not on your own. Here's to determination and will power!!!
Hi Cagy,
I could have written that post myself "most recent failed attempt". I am so so tired of starting again, but you know, I went for my first interval jog in a few months yesterday and I realised that I've been blessed with an attitude of 'start again'. I wonder how many many people fail and don't bother to try after that. We fail and fail but we come back every time, and that's a good thing, because it means we haven't given up and we haven't lost hope. We know we CAN change!
Glad to be part of your journey, in this together xx
Hi Cagy,
I am over 19 stone and that is after losing 5 stone so I know where you are!
My pieces of advice are to reduce portion sizes, cut down on snacking and try swap out a few things to reduce the calories in your favourite meals like half the mince in a bolognaise or swap meat for fish. Try not to completely cut anything out if you like it as you will just crave it and then binge on it. I usually have about 100 cals of choc a day as I love it
Walking is great, even if you can barely walk a km get out and do what you can and build up. Use Mapmywalk, or get a pedometer or GPS watch, these devices will help you keep improving. Try to start with a 20 minute walk a day and build from there.
Good luck
