You'll find different views here but, from my point of view, intermittent fasting comes second to getting your diet right. Once you are regularly eating filling, natural, non-processed foods and being guided by your appetite, you may fall into a pattern of fewer meals (many people do) or you may not. I agree with BridgeGirl . Intermittent Fasting can be a helpful addition to a healthy diet, though I'm less convinced of it as a solution just by itself.

I suppose because it worked last time I am resorting to using again. Have increased my exercise but need to remain consistent in my approach.

Hello there, weight goes up and down, it cannot be the only measure of success or achievement. Many years ago I was doing a very low calorie meal replacement diet and even sticking religiously to it, occasionally there would be weeks when the weight went up rather than down, or stayed the same for a few weeks. Now I’m older and although the weight problem is the same, I’m trying to tackle it with a different point of view. It has to be sustainable (vlcd wasn’t, because you have to eventually go back to food), has to be something I can stick with for many years, has to keep me healthy. With that in mind - did you stick to your plan? Did you eat healthily? Did you have some exercise? Did you drink enough water? If At least some of those questions are answered with a yes, I would say that is an achievement. And hopefully next week will bring a better result on the scales as well.

Hi

Thank you for such a considered response. I am looking for a quick fix with strong weight loss to feel the task is going to be less daunting than it actually is. Yes have got an exercise plan and healthy meal plans from the 5:2 recipe books.

Your response has helped to me to feel less pessimistic about what has on previous weeks been quite positive weight loss.

Great to know that there are people out there who take time to support others

Weight loss isn’t linear, well, not for everyone, obviously there will be exceptions - I wasn’t one 🙁. This very hot weather could have had a hand in it too. My weight is slightly up when it’s like this and humid. Don’t let it get to you, drink plenty of fluids, keep eating healthily and the weight will go. Sometimes it helps to measure too, or check to see if your clothing feels a bit looser. It is honestly possible to lose cms even when the scales are unhelpful.

If you have started exercising, that can increase your blood volume. Digestive system and bladder contents can vary week to week, also intramuscular and intracellular water - though I see you have cut carbs, so that should have cut that.

So you may have lost fat this week, but it not show on the scale. Give it another week.

Or...do what I did. I followed Fast800 (sequel to 5:2) for my first month, and that gave me solid weight loss to make me feel very positive stop me being downcast when things went wrong with the diet.

My weight goes up and like an umbrella in the British summer - I fluctuate up to 8 pounds, this is water retention for a variety of female hormone & for digestion reasons. It comes back to the same average though and my measurements stay the same. You aren’t a box of books, am inert object, staying the same all the time, but a complex living machine that cycles water and other waste in and out, and copes with extra salt, less salt, and alcohol - all of which affect how much water we hold . When I first found my weight zooming up, I was appalled, but then I learned it happened at the same time each month and I was reassured. There’s no rush for losing weight, just relax into eating healthily & less frequently if that’s your approach, and it will be fine. It may help you to weigh yourself most days, keep a log or graph, and see that what goes up also comes down.

Hi Mooro

I had the same feeling few days ago! We are doing fasting too. But what kept me motivated to continue was seeing my before and after photos taken 24days apart. I of course exercise too. I was proud enough to send the photos to my mum and show it to my closest friends! They may have laughed at the before photos but gave me praises for doing something about the weight! Keep it up and good luck! 😊
