I've been struggling with stress and anxiety particularly over the last few weeks. Both at work and home things have been difficult and after colleagues said to speak to G/P I bit the bullet yesterday .
I have reluctantly accepted medication .
Hoping that I can put myself first and get back running and walking and doing the things that I enjoy
Meditation is helping ,I manage to do 10 minutes before I start work .
Sorry for the long post ,
Gary

Hi Gary, well done in taking those first difficult steps to help yourself. That's often the hardest part. Can the docs offer you any talking therapies alongside the medication? I've been suffering for a long time now and have to pay for trauma and psychotherapy as I didn't fit the criteria for cbt etc. I've had four weeks worth and have 16 sessions to go. It's hard work but definitely worth it. I know it's not for everyone, but just want you to know you're not alone. Hang in there 😊
Aw thanks Slimgym,They have given me a number for some talking therapy ,I need to offload to someone who is totally impartial .So that may be the answer .
Thanks for having the courage to post that you aren't 100% . Many of us have had loads of support and encouragement from you so we are all behind you and fingers crossed you will be able to get a break on another of the many decent holidays you have been on soon .
Good to hear you are managing to get out a little as staying in 24/7 is very easily done when you don't feel great and that you have had the strength to carry on working which from experience takes some guts .
Could you look for another job to give you a new start or just look around . I realised some of my so called work 'pals' weren't and I felt better in a new job which I felt over the moon getting as I was almost 60 when I changed . Hopefully you will get support from your GP and soon bounce back . Wishing you all the best .
Thanks focused1, my immediate colleagues are great they have told me to seek help from the G/P.Bulgaria In May then Indian November .
Thanks again focused1,
Gary
Hello chickadee, let's get you back on the right track your always so supportive on here. Keep us updated how your getting on with meds and hope your work/home balance settles soon MM xx
Hello Gary. I’m sorry to hear that you’re having a tough time at the moment. I struggled for such a long while because my GP was old school “pull yourself together”. He has just retired so I saw my new GP and she recommended talking therapy…but the waiting list here is 18 months long. She told me about various podcasts to listen to and they have helped me. I don’t think I can mention the therapist’s names here but I would recommend that you have a look around. Just to listen to people explaining that those scary symptoms are normal and how to feel better has been a terrific help. You will get better and feel like your old self again Gary. Take care xx
Hello Gary. I can see you’ve had loads of great advice…lovely group of virtual friends we have here. I don’t want to overwhelm you but here are the podcasts that have helped me in the past and still do even though I’m much better now.
Disordered: Anxiety Help with Josh Fletcher and Drew Linsalata. Lots of episodes but the first ten episodes make such sense and Josh and Drew have a brilliant sense of humour too!
The Anxious Truth with Drew Linsalata. Lots of episodes but they’re only 20-30 minutes long or even shorter.
I hope you do get chance to listen Gary…it’s hard when you’re already feeling overwhelmed. Sending best wishes to you.🌼
Hi , sorry to read that , meditation is a great thing and definetly will help , On the NRC app there are lots runs by Andy Puddicombe who is the co founder of Headspace , Morning run with headspace and Breaking through Barriers are my favourites ,(30mins ) he also chats with coach Bennett’s, 🐈⬛ 🐈
hi Gary so sorry to hear you are struggling but well done taking the advise your colleagues have given to you. I went on medication when our son was tiny and it helped but the counselling I didn’t do as there was a 6 month waiting list at the time . Years later my new GP gave me a leaflet for a counselling firm in town where I could refer myself and it really helped me to get things sorted and I also got some answers I’d been wanting for years from my OH which he’d kept from me to protect me . Do try to speak to someone who is impartial it will help
I've had counselling in the past ,didn't really help me .I just need to be able to talk about everything that's going on I've been given a number for talking therapy that might help .Been given meds which I haven't had before ,so I'll see how they go .Thanks
Hi gman1961,It sounds like you are working on getting your life back on track after a stressful time? The medication, meditation and talking therapy sound like good interventions and hopefully you will feel more like he you you want to be again soon and able to face the hurdles that have been in your way.
Yes, I am working on not letting myself get too overwhelmed at the moment. I know I can't change the stressful situation that keeps happening but, I can work on my reaction to it. Good luck with it 👍
How's your diet? Diet can cause inflammation in the nerves (the brain is one huge bunch of nerves) which can affect mental health. youtu.be/JVl1X0fb1uA?si=zY9...
Hello, brave man. You are very special, for putting this on here and for the support you give us. It takes a lot to admit when you need help, there are a lot of us on here admitting the same. About 6 months ago I had help from MIND, transferred through my GP but you can just ring them I think. I had 8 meetings as I was in a pretty sad way. Talking is always a good therapy and I agree, talking to people who are not directly involved, is better if you can.
People on here are fantastic. There is always someone here, including yourself, to help or just listen, what a fantastic forum this is. I have dipped in and out of here for years and there is always support, as you know
Take good care of yourself. You are very special xx
Well done for biting the bullet and talking to the GP. I am glad they are helpful and I hope the meds will help. I hope you will take up the talking therapy too. From the replies you have had a lot of people who have been in your position have found it helpful.
Your work colleagues sound very supportive and I hope they will help with the stress at work. Focus on yourself. You have made a start and I hope things will start looking up and you can get back to your running.
Hi Gary, Every journey starts with the first step so well done for taking that first step. Some years ago I was in a similar position stress at work affected my whole life. My GP prescribed antidepressants and CBT. I will be eternally grateful to her they both worked for me. My recovery took time but it was complete I have never been back to that dark place. So stick at it life will get better I promise.x
Hello and welcome to our friendly and supportive forum. If you are on a weight loss journey you will get plenty of support here. Please let me know and I will give you further information about the forum. If you are here to support you are very welcome too.
Hi, thank you for the welcome! I am indeed on a weight loss journey. I am just trying to get my bearings on the site. I'm using my mobile phone, which I know is not ideal.
Hi Gary, well done for taking the first step, it can be very difficult for us to accept that we may need help but life can be very stressful and I most of us will need help at one time or another. Like you I didn't want to take anti depressants a few years ago, but also realised I couldn't go on the way I was and reluctantly did. They helped as did CBT and counselling and in fact it was a client who pointed out that it was all very well being good at helping others, but I should take some of my own advice and seek help when I needed it. Very wise words after all in order to be there for those we care about, we need to be at our best too.
You have had some great advice from others here and I just wanted to wish you all the best and say that I am sure you will get through this and things will improve. 🙂xx
