New and in need of help

My whole life is one sad mess ....diet wise I mean. I feel to have been on a diet for a thousand years. So much to lose its a block I can not see past. I feel like i am in a long never ending tunnel. No light at the end. I need to live again and be happy. My son is married they all support me, yet I cant do this. I do three day on and ruin everything. I need lots of help I cant walk for the pressure on my back

You've answered your own question: diets don't work. Your aim of living again and being happy is attainable if and when you say goodbye to diets. You need a plan that you'll enjoy, and not be thinking of giving up after three days.

I suggest you go for real, fresh food, home cooked, nothing processed - and that includes anything labelled low fat or light or diet, all heavily processed. Make your way to the Daily Diary to see what meals others are planning. I'm sure you'll find something you like or something that intrigues you. Ask questions, people will be happy to tell you what they're basing their meal plans on.

Come on in, get involved and start making the changes you want and need :)

It’s true that “diets” don’t work but you have to find a new way of eating. I found the nhs 12 week diet a good place to start. You just make small changes every week. I changed to wholemeal carbs, lean meats, eggs, milk and natural cheeses that were lower in calories in smaller amounts. I cut out cake, chocolate, crisps and ice cream (nearly) because these are nutritionally poor and high is saturated fats which most people who are v overweight eat too many of. On the 12 week diet you eat plenty of vegetables and try and cook simple nutritious meals from scratch. Back pain is depressing and can be agonising, I hope you have seen your doctor and got appropriate help with X-ray, medication, physio and help with if the pain is causing you to be depressed. Good luck. You can do this!

My goals are 1 st to lost 2 stone or more for Christmas move more and by next summer be 19st or under my goal is to live my life again a walk my dog like I used to

Good plan is to split your long term goals into small achievable steps. For example I will lose between 1-2 pounds a week by only drinking alcohol at the weekend, or eating more vegetables and drinking more water or perhaps cutting out the crisps and cake. I did all these and more but in little achievable steps. With an achievable plan you can do it.

Hi Tess19. You have come to the right place for support, advice and tips. Its not a diet you need it a change of eating habits. Take a look at the LCHF forum. Read lots of posts and ask questions and then begin, you will be amazed how easy it is to lose weight and at the same time never feel hungry. Good luck, keep posting lots of people here to support you.

I agree that you should not be hungry when changing your diet. As for fat I agree it should be in natural form but too much saturated fat in a diet and not enough of the balance of the healthy fats, like oily fish, avocado and oils like olive oil and others in the diet can contribute to heart disease in the opinion of the British Heart Foundation. Lean meats still have a healthy amount of saturated fat running through them as do lower fat Mediterranean cheeses and milk and olive oil for cooking. Food does not make you hungry. It is not eating enough calories that our bodies needs to give energy that makes us hungry. Some foods make you feel satisfied quicker than others. Fat is one of them. This is because fat in any form is high in calories.

Best to check out the British Heart Foundation or your own dr about this. Sure they will give you the correct advice for your particular health needs better than random people online. Sorry I can not help further. But real experts are your way further.
