Hi Clare, and welcome. Wow well done on losing, sounds like you’re really in the zone. Are you a ’walker’ as in going out into the hills or do you count your steps while going about your normal day? Either way, you’ll get lots of support here, especially if you choose to ’join in’ with the various threads, maybe offer some of your slimmers world tips too.
Hi - I'm new her this week too
Hello May . It is making that start isn't it . My motto was if you don't buy it , you can't eat it . Downfall was 7pm onwards but hopefully lighter nights will be when I go for a walk , shower and the odd low cal hot choc which are so hot you have to sip them . I try and watch all my fave programmes after I have just eaten so I don't put feet up with a snack . I have loads of crazy coping mechanisms as I love everything I shouldn't .

Hello Clare, well done with your efforts so far. The challenge group provide support for an area you want to look at changing. The group currently has run for two weeks and are looking at intermittent fasting, ultra-processed food, exercise and water consumption. Please come over and say hi...
Wow - impressive . Make sure you are actually eating enough and drinking too as 15k steps per day will burn off calories which obviously you don't count . Try Myfitnesspal free app which will guide you through the basic macros as I found my salt intake was too high as I had a demanding job at the time and took the odd can of veg soup to work but that coupled with the recipes I tweaked and my calorie intake meant my nutrients weren't balanced .
I lost weight quickly initially but found it did slow down and keeping it off was an issue but you are doing so well and the determination you are showing is creditable . Mentally I never felt better as I looked better clothes and didn't dread sunny days .
Thank goodness you are on a reasonable amount of calories . I was recommended 1250 when I started and actually lost more on 1450 . I love group exercise . I love Zumba . Try on You Tube as it is great if the weather is awful or you have to cook / watch the oven . I exercise using my largish TV screen so I can follow the steps but if a 64 year old can do this then please - give it a go . I found it was cheaper to join a gym as you feel committed but going 3x a week then it is worth it especially as you have to book in advance . Had a swift go at running but it shredded my feet and the distances were too much as the push to run for charity seems tempting until you do it so no more of that . Swimming - unless I go after 19.30 I never find a pool where I can swim up and down plus kids lessons block a lot out so walking and Zumba actually is enough.
I follow get fit with rick on YouTube walking workouts I do that if the weather is rubbish and I can't get out for a walk. I also like dancing I get the Alexa on in the kitchen and dance around my family think I'm mad sometimes 😃
Yes I get the mad thrown at me . My husband only dances on holiday . Thank gawd we don’t go to the same place twice .
The important thing about weight loss is undertanding what controls energy storage and that's insulin, so the way to not put back the weight that you've lost by excersising is keeping your insulin from spiking, this is done by avoiding foods that have a high glycaemic index i.e. refined sugars and starches (sweetened foods, fruit juices, energy drinks, alcohol and anything made with flour especialy wheat flour), Also reduce your portions of starchy foods like potatoes and rice and go for a protein based breakfast (bacon, eggs, fish) rather than cereals ( branded or plain rolled oats).
Don't do all these things at once as it will take your body time to adjust from getting its energy from carbs.
Hi clare I rejoined SW a fortnight ago myself welcome to the site. I've been on here a year and the support is immense good luck on your journey xx
Hey Clare!
That's awesome progress you've made with Slimming World! Losing 10 1/2 lbs in just 4 weeks is a real achievement. It's fantastic that you enjoy walking! Aiming for 15,000 steps a day is a great way to stay active and keep the momentum going.
While walking is fantastic, consider mixing in some strength training exercises too. They can help build muscle, which can in turn boost your metabolism and aid in your weight loss journey. Don't forget about your diet! Eating a balanced, nutritious diet is key to supporting your weight loss goals.
Keep up the fantastic work, Clare! You're doing great, and you've got a whole community here cheering you on!
