How long after eating should i wait before a workout?
Workout after eating: How long after... - Weight Loss Support
Workout after eating
Hello and welcome KarateAddict
I’m afraid I don’t know, this is a peer to peer support group for weight loss. I prefer to exercise first thing on an empty stomach. As a child we were always told to leave it an hour before going swimming so that may be a good indicator? I hope someone else can help you
I’m not sure if you’re also looking for help with weight loss, but please let me know and I sort out the official welcome and members badge
Best wishes
Thank you, yes i am on my weight loss journey, that’s one of the reasons i do extra exercises. I generally don’t really feel up to any workout in the morning, but after a work day i feel like exercise is just what I need.
Go with how you feel 😊 As long as it doesn’t make you feel unwell
I’ve sorted your badge, and if you haven’t ready, please read Pinned Posts here healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...
Best wishes

"As a child we were always told to leave it an hour before going swimming"
I was told the same, though I remember being sceptical "I don't get a cramp when I run around after eating, why should I in the water?" but I obeyed. Everyone did it. It was a rule.
I recently was surprised to find it was long ago debunk:

But it probably did us no harm, we didn't snack during a day at the beach. If there was a picnic lunch, we ate that, but then nothing except maybe an ice cream on the way to the car.
1-2 hours..
hi - my trainer says a minimum of 45 minutes after food and that food should ideally be protein based to feed your body. Also only take sips of water during exercise, not big gulps, so that you are "feeding" your body fluids to keep it working. Good luck.
Hi, I would suggest between 1 to 2 hours, 90 minutes after a main meal is optimal, if you train for an hour, you'll be ready for your next healthy snack afterwards to replenish spent energy (good quality Carbs and Protein)
We are all our own scientific study, with number of participants, n=1.
Now you can't use yourself to find out which diet is best to avoid a heart attack, but you can to find out when is the best time for you to exercise. Try different scenarios. The effects maybe different depending on what you ate, how much you ate, and what sort of exercise you are doing.
I used to do audaxes (eg cycle 400km in 27 hours), so I got very used to getting straight back on my bike after a meal. You might learn to do the same.
But if that doesn't work for you, the next time wait and hour, and if necessary 2 hours.
It wouldn't take you a week to learn what is optimal for your body.
Don't go straight from a heavy meal to an all-out lifting session or HIIT. Start out slowly to see how your body responds, then you can increase the intensity if you seem to be coping.
