I am a person that want things done yesterday. I need to lose 50 pounds. How can I think a pound in a week is a victory and not 2-4 pounds. My priority is to be healthy and keep the weight off. I would love to hear from you.

Patience
You know the answer in your head. You can’t lose fat & keep it off quickly. People have tried for years, it’s not possible. The only way to lose a huge amount of weight in a short time & keep it off, regardless of all the weird tip diets advertised, is to give birth or have an amputation. Harsh but true. You may lose up to half a stone in your first week of a diet - that’s your body using up your Glycogen store, which has a lot of water with it.
Starting a lifestyle change to lose weight is a big commitment & once you’ve decided to change, you want it done /gone now. We all do. But... every 7lbs you lose you will feel better in and about yourself. 10lbs you actually do lose, is better than 2 stone you don’t.
Hi and welcome, Rose-petal
As Slim_for_good has said, what we're all looking for is sustainable weight loss, so finding a way of eating that you can stick with for the rest of your life is the way to go. Time restricted diets may get rid of the weight quicker, but will probably mess up your metabolism and have you returning next year to lose those 50lbs again, plus an extra 10lbs.
All of the information you need about the forum can be found in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and I hope you'll be joining all the Events, Challenges and Clubs that we run, especially a weigh-in and the daily diary.
We've found active participation to be key to successful weight loss and, of course, it's a good way to get to know people, find inspiration and share support and encouragement.
Wishing you all the best
Hi Rose-petal and welcome
I've been here over 3 years (for my sins ) and haven't seen one impatient person lose all the weight they wanted. Losing weight quickly almost invariably leads to the body fighting back because it doesn't like being 'starved' (starvation being a level below what is deemed correct). Weight loss then stalls and getting the body to revert back to normal is a laborious business.
Despite being told this, many soldier on regardless of the advice provided They will be happy because they lose a stone or a stone and a half quickly (if they are large enough to start with) and then don't understand why they can't lose any more.
As Sfg has already mentioned, each time you lose some weight (any weight) you will be that bit more healthy than you were
Have a think about joining one of the weekly weigh-ins and the Daily Diarys. If you can concentrate on these two things alone (there's much more here than those) you will make great progress.
Good luck!
Alright, I'm going to say it:
Lose weight as quickly as you like. From my reading of research, quicker weight loss is actually more successful in both the short and long term than slow weight loss.
The only downsides I found in research are a slightly increased risk of kidney stones, and a lot of people asserting that you will get more loose skin, but I can't find any research to back that up, and I can't imagine any mechanism to justify that.
If you do lose weight fast, it's important to understand that you can't just go back to your previous lifestyle. Once you reach your target, you have to adopt a healthy eating pattern or you will put it back on again.
(boy am I going to get for breaking with the orthodoxy)
Interesting. How fast is fast Badger?
800kcal/day.
I think this needs a proper discussion. I will pull together some facts and write a new topic about it - maybe later today.
Expect you are right. But I feel hungry just looking at the words 800cals. I don’t anyone with that amount if willpower...
Yes there are no likes in the heart box. Hahaha
I can see your point too
Here’s my two pence worth Rosepetal. Of course people CAN lose weight at speed, hostages do it, Hollywood actors do it. But it takes a phenomenal amount of willpower & overriding your appetite. And for those of us with a few pounds to lose, the whole point is that we were never abstemious eaters. There’s a point when your body simply cannot take being starved anymore, and you eat and eat. I am not aware of the research Badger refers to - Badger does things thoroughly so am sure she’s right. But dear me, it sounds like torture & you would not have learnt any healthy new behaviours along the way. If you have a fair bit to lose, the first stone will come off pretty briskly anyway. X
Hi there
I’m finding setting myself mini goals useful -they are not all related to the number on the scales. I had jeans I wanted to fit in that I am in now ... so. I bought a dress the next size down that’s hanging up outside my wardrobe to encourage me the next leg of my journey. The amount I loose is great but so is my clothes fitting better or walking further this week than I could last month comfortably.
I also have a jar I put money in that I would of spend on sweet treats before so when I get my end goal I can blow it on something nice or memorable for myself as another reward
Hi, Rose-petal , welcome.
Keeping the weight off can be the hardest part!
If you "slim smart" weight loss is not so hard! It is not all about motivation and masochism.
Some of us here find that what works is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:
