Hi everyone,

Last Monday I weighed 13 stone 6.2 pounds, and today I weigh 13 stone 5.8 pounds, so I've lost 0.4 pound this week. I'd hoped to lose a bit more, as my goal was to lose 1 pound, but I am happy to have lost something! It's going in the right direction, so I'm thankful for that. :-)

I've been getting back to regular walking, and have enjoyed that. This week I'm going to try to be more disciplined with regard to limiting my calories. I am aiming to do more pre-planning of meals so that I can keep within a calorie allowance more consistently - I admit I had been letting things lapse as a result of having been ill, but now that I'm feeling better, I need to get back on track. No more 'comfort eating'.

I hope you'll join me for this Monday weigh-in, and share your experiences. There's quite a few of us regular Monday weighers now, and it's a supportive thread. Anyone is welcome to join in, and you'd be very welcome!

My ultimate goal is to reach 12 stone 7 pounds, so I need to lose 12.8 pounds. This week I'd like to lose between 1 to 2 pounds - hopefully closer to 2 pounds!

Wishing everyone success with your weight loss journeys!

Lowcal :-)

Hi Lowcal, glad your weight loss is going in the right direction :)

I have been laid up all week with the chest infection that started as a cold a few weeks ago. I haven't felt that poorly for a long time and am still chesty and lightheaded now. I haven't been able to exercise much, just a few short dog walks.

My appetite has been virtually non existent, although I have made myself eat morning and night, and I have lost 5lbs since last Monday - I wouldn't recommend the chest infection diet though.. I don't think it is medically approved :)

Hope everyone has a good healthy week :)

See you next time.

Hi Kate,

So sorry to hear you're laid up and poorly still - it can take some time to shift a chest infection, so just give it the time it needs and look after yourself. I'd like to Congratulation you on your 5 pound weight loss, but like you say, the chest infection diet is not medically approved.

Hope you feel better soon - keep warm and hydrated.

Well done on losing this week lowcal. I'm sure the rest will come off soon. This is my first week of maintaining and I have put on a pound. It is not much I know but I think I am still trying to get the right balence. I have not been as good recording what I have eaten as I should be, and being aware that I have more calories to eat than before have probably made some unhealthy food choices. I need to make sure that any snacks I eat are healthy and record everything I eat to make sure I stick to my allowance as I dont want to slip back into bad habits now I am at target. Good luck for this week everyone.

Hi Catch,

It was so great to see your weight loss post over the weekend - like I said, those before and after photos show significant change, and you are looking great! Many Congratulations on achieving your target. It was inspiring to read your progress. Really glad you're joining us for this weigh-in now that you're into the maintenance phase. It's bound to take some tinkering to get the balance right - don't worry about the 1 pound initial gain, I'm sure you'll get that off again this week.

Wishing you a good week ahead.

Lowcal :-)

Hi Catch,

It's good to read your post: I'm at maintenance too, having dropped 2.5 stone last year, then had 5lbs creep on before Christmas, and now being back to my "happy" weight range. Maintenance is definitely a balancing act that I'm still trying to get right. I find it's sometimes hard to tell the difference between natural fluctuations and a real weight-gain trend, and to know when to hold steady and have trust, and when to take action. My Fitness Pal has a forum for people maintaining which makes interesting reading - community.myfitnesspal.com/...

I found this thread particularly helpful, as she's been doing it a while and has similar stats to me:

community.myfitnesspal.com/...

Good luck with maintenance - I'll keep posting too and we can compare experiences!

Thank you burntsun, it's good to hear about other people in the same position as me. I think I was aware last week that we had menu planned for 1400 calories a day, but I needed to increase it to 1900 and so mmay have made some poor choices on the back of that. It is just a case of increasing the calories in a sensible way this week instead and seeing how I go. Will have a look at the myfitnesspal forum as well, thanks again!

Catch have spent 18 months maintaing on this thread! My initial goal was a 25 BMI, around 11.3 but I keep slipping it down under 11, 10.10 and then 10.8 I was10.6 last year thanks to a dry November but 2 months of partying put paid to all that ;) but this weigh in is key for me Lowcal as ever thanks for keeping us focused

Hi Sinead92,

Thank you!

Congratulations to you on losing 2 pounds this week - that's really great! Really good that you managed to do a lot of exercise, that must definitely have helped, and you'll be fitter as a result.

Hope you have another great week ahead, and that the weather brightens up.

I rarely post, just tend to read, but have lost 2 pounds this week taking my total lose to 3 stone so wanted to share. Still need to lose at least another 3 stone but am so encouraged that i have managed to lose something this week as i always find half term week hard and my little one has been poorly and ended up in hospital.

Hi Timetobethebestme,

I'm really glad you decided to join us for this Monday weigh-in - especially as you rarely post - a very warm welcome! :-) Sorry to hear your little one has been poorly and in hospital, and hope they are better really soon.

Congratulations on losing 2 pounds this week - that's really great. Like you say, half-term is particularly challenging, and to lose such a great amount after a challenging time is doubly impressive. Really glad you shared that with us.

Feel free to join us anytime, if you feel like it - no pressure though - weighing in and sharing that info is a very personal thing.

Wishing you success with losing the remaining weight. You've made a great start.

Have a great week.

Hi again Googoes,

Just noticed your post here - it's good that you have a renewed sense of motivation, as I think that's half the battle - you're doing great - you've had a larger loss last week, and this slight gain this week will soon disappear again now you're 'on it' to succeed.

Hi Googoes,

You're definitely not alone - we're all in the same boat here, bobbing up and down on the waves hoping to reach our destinations and achieve our goals. :-) Sometimes those stormy seas scupper us, but sunshine shines too, and we'll hopefully get there in the end - it just takes perseverance and like you say, keeping on the positive side whenever we can regarding motivation etc.

Hope you've had a good day and enjoy your evening!

Onwards tho - LC you are on the way down I will follow you:-)

Hi Suzybenj,

Well done for maintaining your weight this week - staying the same after a very busy social holiday week is definitely something to be celebrated! (Well, maybe not actually 'celebrated' but you know what I mean…!) :-)

No kicking yourself for lack of discipline - I think you must have shown some discipline to have managed not to gain any weight - so I challenge your view that you weren't disciplined.

Yes, let's join one another on the 'downwards' trend - here's to some weight loss next week.

Have a great week!

Good morning Lowcal, well done on your loss this week. I have lost 1lb this week making a total of 14.1/2 lbs, the first stone gone, another 2 stones to go. I have slowed down which is to be expected, I,m quite pleased with my loss this week and aiming to lose 1 to 2 lbs this next week. It was bound to slow down I was expecting to. Good luck everyone with your weigh-ins today.

Congratulations on losing 1 pound this week - your first stone is gone (plus that extra half a pound of course! - it all counts!). You're a third of the way to your ultimate goal - really great progress.

Yes, I think it does slow down, but losing 1 to 2 pounds is a great goal to set yourself for the coming week, and all the best for a successful week ahead.

Morning Lowcal and everyone!

Happy to see some losses this morning! :D well done Lowcal! A loss is a loss after all! And pre planning meals is always a good idea. I try to do it as much as I can! :)

I'm pleased to say I have managed to weigh on time this week and have some good news to report! :)

After having been stuck down with this bug everyone else seems to be having I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel! I am not 100% but feel a lot better and should be able to get back to some exercise this week! :)

Having shot back up to 12st 13lbs I managed to save it before I crept into the 13st mark. Weighing in this morning I am down to 12st 11lbs so have lost 2lbs! I am feeling very pleased with myself! :D

Only 5 days in giving up the cake, chocolate and sweets for lent but it is going well so far!

Finally losing some weight has given me the boost I needed to get back on track. I am feeling very positive this week!

Here's to the same again next weigh in! Fingers crossed! :D

Sophie :)

Hi Sophie,

Thanks for your encouraging words. :-)

It's so great to hear you're feeling better following that chesty cold thing that we've all been getting. Glad you have managed to get through that ok. Congratulations on losing 2 pounds this week - that's really great! Especially good to hear you saved yourself from going up into the 13's - hopefully you won't be seeing that territory again. :-)

You sound really positive, and that's really great to hear. Also good that you're coping with giving up cake, chocolate and sweets for Lent - I'm sure that will make a big difference as they are all relatively calorific. Without those extra calories you'll notice a difference.

Wishing you another successful week ahead.

Lowcal :-)

Hi Lowcal, really good to hear you're back on track. Following your threads these past few weeks prepared me for my mini-bug. It started as a cold, got worse later in the week, and then cleared up a bit yesterday, hoping it's pretty much gone now. A 7-day bug all-in. I didn't lose or gain, still 12st2. Didn't stick to diet or do exercise Thurs-Sun, but will be getting back on track this week (possibly doing a couch-to-5k week 4 run this eve).

Good luck for continued weight-loss and hope you can keep to your good intentions. I will be getting more healthy fruit n veg in and trying to return to my good intentions this week too.

Hi Ruth_Canal_Runner,

I'm sorry to hear you are another person to succumb to the 'bug' - at least it has only lasted for 7 days, but those days can be long!!! At least you've maintained your weight during that time, and you're feeling better now. That's good to hear!

It was good that you avoided exercise during that time, as I think it's important to try to give your body the rest it needs to recuperate and get better. I know you're planning to do a run this evening, but please do pace yourself and not overdo it - you've only just recovered and therefore might need some slack.

Thanks very much for your encouraging words - much appreciated. :-)

Great that you're stocking up on more healthy fruit n veg - they are really tasty and so nutritious.

Have a good week.

Week 7 just a .5lbs loss for me. Not been great 2 weeks with illness (severe ear infection that will not go), so serious lack of exercise!

However, this is about a permanent change so will not give up and posting keeps me motivated!

Well done all with the loss!

Congratulations on the 0.5 pound loss. Hope you're enjoying the NHS 12 week plan - you're in week 7 so sticking with it. Well done. :-)

Hi,

Good to hear you are getting back to normal and feeling better and well done on loseing .4 lbs this week.I want to get down to 12.5 by 29th April when I go on holiday so we have a similar target, I lost 1lb this week so am now 13.4 (total loss over 7 weeks 11lb)

I must agree it has been great haveing the incentive to weigh in on a monday, it really helps and much better than going to slimming classes. The biggest thing I feel has helped me is makeing sure I have my 5 a day fruit and veg, also not eating after my evening meal, I did the dry January and am still only haveing the odd glass of wine, it's a bit worrying really as not missing it and have always enjoyed a glass of wine, how sad is that.

I am looking forward to summer and getting back into some of the lovely summer dresses I have that haven't been out of the wardrobe for a couple of years.

Well hope everyone has a good week

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply toslimjan

Hi Slimjan,

Yes, we have very similar targets and the fact you mentioned wanting to lose your weight by the end of April makes me consider a 'time-frame' for my own weight - I'll have to give that some thought.

Glad you're finding the Monday weigh-in helpful - I really think that having online group support is definitely good. I don't always feel like posting my weight, but knowing that I have committed to being here for the Monday weigh-ins really inspires me and encourages me to actually 'do it' and it makes me keep my goals 'in mind'.

It's great that you've achieved your goal to have 5 a day fruit and veg - I hope you're enjoying the variety of vegetables there are. Well done for achieving 'Dry January' as well.

Great that you're looking forward to wearing all those Summer dresses too - let's hope we have lots of nice sunshine to go with them.

Have a great week.

Morning Lowcal! Great to hear that you have been able to go walking and have lost a bit more! In week 7 I have lost 100g/0.3 pounds and my BMI is 27.1 (overweight). I've had a very social weekend (flights, eating out, parties and concerts) and although I managed to make healthy choices and to control my calorie intake, I have had too many carbs (beer, pasta and rice dishes, so yummy after walking under the rain!), so there's probably some water retention hiding behind the number on the scales (for each gram of carbohydrate stored, your body needs to hold onto 3 grams of water).

My scales show a drop in body fat, and I have dropped a jeans size!

Have a good week!

Zest profile image

Hi HRHGaby,

Thank you!

Congratulations on losing 0.3 pound this week - that's really good, as you mentioned having a very social weekend - it's great that you made some healthy choices and were able to still control your calorie intake. That takes some discipline and dedication, so really well done! :-)

I'm sure your scales will show a larger loss when you lose those grams of water (after the pasta etc).

Great that your scales have shown a drop in body fat, and losing a jean's size is really great! :-)

Wishing you another great week ahead.

Hi Lowcal and all,

Well done with the loss - great to hear you're back on track. You will succeed I'm sure: you have such a great attitude and a good strong dose of perseverance.

I'm within my happy weight range again now (horay), and want to concentrate on not gaining back while eating enough to support my increased running and the weight lifting. The running mileage is going to increase until May (when I'm doing a race), so I need to work out a strategy to get enough energy in while not losing the healthy habits that I've learned. Maintenance is definitely a lot about psychology, bit of a mind shift to losing, and not something I've had a lot of practice at. I'll keep posting, so that I keep being accountable.

Have a lovely week all

Zest profile image

Hi Burntsun,

Thanks very much for those encouraging words - I think you're right that a good strong dose of perseverance is what we all need! I am feeling like my attitude is more positive this week - so I am hopeful that I might lose more weight for next week's weigh-in - all being well.

It's great to hear you're back in your 'happy weight range' again - very good to hear! Congratulations! :-)

It must be quite difficult to work out the balance you need between getting sufficient energy to do all that training for your running (alongside your weight training), but also maintain your healthy habits. But you're working on a strategy and once you fine tune it and work it out, then I am sure you'll feel more practised, and will hopefully achieve all your goals - and run an amazing race in May whilst being fit and healthy.

Glad you'll be continuing to join us for these Monday weigh-ins - hope you have a great week ahead.

Hi Lowcal,

Well done! You must have been so pleased to have seen the reading on the scales this morning, what a great boost to get back on track. Having had this chest infection myself I know exactly what you mean about the need to comfort eat and not being able to exercise and today is the first time for nearly a fortnight that I have felt 'normal' again!

I was 10st 13lb and very, very pleased with that as I wasn't expecting to have lost anything at all so it's a great start to the week. In a meeting this morning but no biscuits on the table (which helps!) and home to a boiled egg and toast so I'm starting as I mean to go on.

Well done everyone who's lost something and commiserations to those who haven't but it's not the end of the world and we'll all be a lot lighter when the summer starts :-).

See you next week.

Really glad to hear you're feeling better after your chest infection. That's great news! :-) Also Congratulations on losing weight this week, despite being tempted to comfort eat whilst you were ill. It's great that you're under the 11's, and into the 10's - Congratulations again!!! :-)

I absolutely love boiled egg on toast - I think of it as a real 'comfort food' and yet it's actually healthy - so I hope you enjoy it when you get back. I'm having some Chicken with roasted vegetables (red onion, mushrooms and broccoli and carrots) and a jacket potato with some butter and cheese for my dinner this evening. I'm pre-planning my meals this week, so I hope to stick to those meal plans.

Wishing you another great week ahead. Thanks for your encouraging words as well. Much appreciated.

Ok, would like to join Monday weigh in - how do I do that? I am only 5ft 1in and I am 12st 2 lbs (not good) and want to get down to under 10st as main goal, that is 30 lbs to go. Have lost 3lbs so far but quite erraticly up and down, so any and all advice gratefully received.

Zest profile image
ZestHealthy BMI in reply toCoho

Hi Coho,

I post my Monday weigh-in at about 7am to 7.15am on Mondays, and I always put the title of the post as 'Please Join Me for a Monday Weigh-in" and then I put the current date in brackets after that - so look out for that title this Monday, which will be 11th May, and you'll have found the current weigh-in.

Congratulations for losing 3 pounds already - that's a good start. I know you said it's been a bit up and down, so maybe take a look at the NHS website pages for some structured advice and information - there's a 12 week structured plan there, which is really good. If you can't find it, let me know, and I'll give you the link, but I think it's easy to find - you just click on the title above which says 'Weight Loss NHS' and it will take you there.

Hope to see you for Monday's weigh-in, and good luck with your weight loss journey. Have a great weekend in the meantime.
